Laina Gold. A name everyone knew; a name that held importance and sophistication.
She was the high school student who was to inherit her families business and carry on the family name with pride and prestige. She was the girl who everyone thought had things handed to her on a golden platter and had her life mapped out in a way that would ensure she wouldn't have to worry about the everyday inconveniences of life.
Truthfully she never entirely liked the way her life had been styled, and although she was grateful for her family's generosity, it was never the life she had seen for herself. Yet she went along with it anyway due to the ongoing pressure from her family to be the perfect daughter she knew that they missed dearly.
August Gold. A name that now came with speculation. After she had killed herself, leaving her Mother, Father and younger sister Laina behind, many people of the business industry began to speculate whether she did it out of spite towards her family, or for attention. They all questioned whether the Gold family would be stable enough to carry on with their very wealthy and successful Law business.
Many of these wealthy and snobbish colleagues of the Gold family never found the time to delve deeper into the reasons of why. Why this poor girl found the need to take her own life away. They just saw it as a selfish deed through their closed-minded standards.
Laina and her family knew the truth. August had been extremely depressed and after a while had been struggling to cope. She had been put under enormous amounts of pressure and had almost everyone around her expecting her to be nothing less than the perfect student, daughter and friend. She felt trapped but the immense pressure was something she found able to handle with the help of her long term boyfriend, Pierce. He was the stereotypical good guy; someone everyone was mesmerised by.
When August had brought Pierce home for the first time in order for him to meet her family, they were completely in awe. Stunned that their daughter had managed to find a man like this to have and hold by her side. They welcomed Pierce into their family with open arms.
Laina loved him like a brother. He looked out for her and gave her guidance whenever it necessary.
So when August found out he was cheating on her the entire time, she fell deep into a depression she couldn't find her way out of.
Her pressures builder up on each other. She was still being expected to be perfect and without a shoulder to cry on she felt there was no way out. She spent months upon months in a horrific state until one day she wanted it all to stop.
It was April 9th and she had just gotten home after a long day of classes during her last year of high school, when she walked up the stairs with her emotionally broken soul and wrote her family a letter; explaining why she was about to do what she was about to do.
August laid on the floor lifeless for all of forty minutes until Laina discovered her body. She immediately called emergency services, begging them for help with absolute despair and heartache filling her words.
They tried to save her but nothing could be done. Camille and George Gold watched in absolute terror as their oldest daughter was wheeled out on a stretcher in a body bag, taking a piece of each of their now broken hearts with her. It was a day no member of the Gold family would forget.
Now two years exactly after the incident, Laina sat in the greenhouse out in the backyard of her family home.
The rain cascaded down the glass roof and walls and as she watched peacefully she let the soothing sounds deliver her a small piece of comfort but her mind always somehow found its way back to August. She missed her sister so so much, it was painful.
