A pounding headache and sore eyes welcomed Laina quite unpleasantly as she woke from her very deep slumber.
It wasn't the ideal way for her day to start, but it was what she deserved. From the shenanigans of the night before, there came to be consequences. The way her morning started was only the first.
The second was much worse, because as she heard footsteps getting closer and closer to her room, she knew all hell was about to break loose.
Her mother's face was a sight she'd never forget. For the disappointment was much to strong to go unnoticed. All she could do was sheepishly avoid eye contact and apologise countless times.
Her mother came around in the end. She understood the pressure Laina was under the previous night, with people continuously asking her questions about her late sister. She had to keep a somewhat calm composure the entire night and the alcohol helped her profusely with that.
Although her mother understood, she was still given a strict lecture.
Laina almost wished her mother would just punish her. Maybe then she could feel a little more like a normal teenage girl.
Her eyes were taking in her surroundings very slowly, for it hurt her head if her actions were anything but slow.
The sun was shining pleasantly through her lightly coloured curtains. The rays covered her white walls delicately, leaving behind different shadows and highlights in each place it shone.
Her large bed was pushed against the biggest window and was adjacent to the door. Across from the door lied another window in which she sat at quite often and painted.
Painting was one of her most beloved pass-times and it was a hobby she deeply cherished. Her artworks were littered around her room quite frequently.
They start from the bottom of her wall - waves and flowers staining her once clean white walls - to the top where many canvases and torn up pieces of paper stick and hang against the wall. Among the paintings and sketches are many pictures, poems and reminders.
She found herself staring at the wall directly opposite her bed in satisfaction. She really did love the creativity that covered her room.
Her parents weren't exactly thrilled at first when they saw she had taped up many papers to the freshly painted walls. Laina however, didn't care for their opinion on the matter. For she knew, they would most likely come around in the end and it was also how she liked it. It helped her creatively and made her mind run wild with new ideas for projects.
After lazing around for quite some time, Laina dragged herself up from the comfort of her bed with a glum expression. She placed her feet on the floor and stood up reluctantly.
She was quite surprised and grateful that the urge to throw up hadn't hit her like a train. She still felt dizzy however, leading to her downing many cups of water in the bathroom before heading down the stairs to eat breakfast.
A piece of fruit was all she was up for at that moment. So with a banana in one hand and her phone in the other she started to make her way back towards the stairs. Her mother's voice was the only interrupting factor in her quest back to a deep sleep.
"Laina eat that fast please."
"Why?" She had placed one foot onto the first step of the spiralling staircase, before turning around to look at her mother.
She was ready for the day and looked as though the drinks she also had consumed the night before had had no effect on her whatsoever. Though the two painkillers in her hand told Laina a different story.
