Reaching the cafe, you find that Kamin is waiting for you as she goes over the numbers for the day.

"Kamin..."

"Y/N! Is everything ok?"

"Can we get everyone around first? I have an announcement to make."

The team that you've built over the past months gather around you, looking at you earnestly. Seldom do you call for a meeting like that, and they are not liking the look on your face.

"Everyone, I have good news. Please extend your congratulations to Kamin. She has been promoted to cafe manager and shall now be lording over you guys with immediate effect. HQ has approved and confirmed the move and you shall receive the offer officially tomorrow morning."

All the girls get excited and crowd around Kamin to congratulate her. You want to but at this point you can't muster any excitement for her despite being happy for her.

Kamin also doesn't feel the excitement, not if you're not sharing this joy with her. She can read you more in depth than anyone else. She has guessed that you are leaving for some sort of reason and it is not good.

"So you're leaving Y/N?"

You only give a small smile, "Yes I am. I have some personal family matters that require immediate and urgent attention. As such, I am unable to serve notice and have to pass on this responsibility to Kamin without any handover or adjustment period. This is very irresponsible of me, so please don't learn from this example. I'm sorry Kamin, this is going to be tough on you.

Kamin, you have earned your right to this promotion. But it is only me who have seen it with my own eyes. You want to keep it, you have to earn it. Prove to the company your are more than capable. Each of you have earned the right to be here by my word and my proof. Keep that up and you will be rewarded in your work ethics and morals."

Eunhye whom you protect the most, since she is the most sensitive, just holds your hand.

Min-a, whom you think has a lot of potential in marketing, smiles on at you.

Each of your staff comes forward and hugs you, each of them promising to do their best at this place.

The heavy silence settles on each and everyone of you, knowing how much of a family each of you have come to be. It hadn't been apparent, but Kamin saw a pattern in each of the person who works in this place.

They all have had hard times and needed support. A single mother with a daughter, a student struggling with debts, a graduate trying to find a better job but needed to put food on the table, someone trying to chase their dream.

It wasn't about choosing them out of pity, or even getting them to be on your side from being grateful. You have fired people before, given them dressing downs when they all needed it. You sat them down and motivated them. You gave them the opportunity to breathe when they were all struggling and drowning. The ones here are the those who have chosen to grab onto this to stay afloat before they can find the strength to swim ashore again.

They were the people whom you have worked with, trained up, moulded them to be better people. People you forged relations with, fought with, reprimanded, ate and drank with. People who became your friends.

The family you have chosen.

"Guys I'm so sorry, but I have to go. I have other things to take care of."

"Y/N... when will we see you again?"

You don't reply, only giving them a smile that they see doesn't reach your eyes.

Hi guys~ here's a double update because this current chapter is pretty short but would have made the previous chapter too long and it felt better to me to split it like this.

There's only couple of chapters left and I just want to say thank you so much for all the love you've given it.

This is a piece of work that I've actually finished. I'm a person who has a tendency to start things and not finish them. Lol. I'm really glad that this is one that I've been satisfied with thus far. 😊
