The footsteps were immediately heard at the end of the corridor. Immediately, the interns and doctors stuck to the walls on her majestic yet frightening threatening arrival. Lisa Eldestein hid the few survivors, hiding her own laugh. Dr Cate Beckett tried to convince the choleric. Journalists tried to abscond under her bubbling sparks, those irises of fire pointing at her target.
Dr Rebecca Smith was glaring at Laura Vosgen. She would not interrupt a meeting with the press. Incapable of mockeries, pushing her doctor to her own limits, beyond what she encountered in the hospital. She had never suspected such a game. Reacting furiously she swept with her fist a trolley, which fell in a deafening noise. Her yell squeaked the bowels of each witness.
She grabs her by a piece of her dirty sweaty sweatshirt. Her lips were trembling for what she could not deliver a word without swearing at her. Anger had pushed her to a tension.
" I will ask you to leave.
- This is not the kind of treatment I was expecting.
- There is no cure for an idiot like you.
- I prefer the word fool. "
She lets her run. She does not proceed and shares a challenging grin. As another reaction, Rebecca slaps.
" How dare you hitting me ?
- How dare you hitting on me ? "
Their glances and sentences stopped. Laura was open-mouthed. Realizing the borders of their chemistry, she sensed like a temptation. For now she had crashed it. The hit had been seen by the audience, reduced to silence and surprise.
Already Rebecca Smith was thinking of the worst punishments. Only she could not find any and remained to complain only. After the press called for interviews, and Laura accepting all of them, the pressure reached a second climax, silently devouring her. She was not prepared to be nicknamed her muse, giving birth to Rose Smyth, her avatar written by such a pity character in her own scenario of life.
A bunch of interns head at the duo. Lisa Eldestein stops them by a hand, claiming for silence in the loud whispers area.
" Can anybody explain this behavior ?! "
The yell frighten both of the offenders. Laura prefers avoiding eye contact with the superior. Rebecca Smith acts similarly, with blurry lips and red burning cheeks.
" Dr Smith. What's wrong ? "
The friend hated to heard her name in the mouth of her, she was used to a more friendly nickname.
" Laura Vosgen, Madam. "
At this moment, the target would like to run away.
" Yes ? Go on. "
Interns kept spying. Madam Eldestein pushes one by a hand, the others followed, escaping far away in a shy rush.
" She is addicted to writing. This patient here won't leave her room and never stop writing a novel about me and this hospital..."
Dr Cate Beckett steps forward with a discreet joke, providing a laugh.
" No doubt you are her muse, since day one.
- This is outrageous ! "
Lisa observes Rebecca.
" What can we do ! At least you're recovering, the results are.. She smiles politely at her, who tried to remain clear.
- They are false ! She never stopped her addiction.
- She will.
- I will, Laura says.
- Don't you dare stepping in this mess.
- I love messy things.
- Of course she does.. Cate tries, receiving a classic punch in the stomach."
The tension grew stronger as the talk pursued. One hour later, the tongues kept delivering answers, questions and attacks. The subject is the same. The tone changed.
" SHE WROTE A WHOLE BOOK ABOUT ME FOR GOD SAKE !
- A compliment, honey. "
Lisa Eldestein, as a fan, knew this. She tried to calm the duo. Addressing smiles at her favorite writer, and big concerned eyes at her friendly employee.
" Let's move to my office, would you ?
- With pleasure and honor.
- Oh, really ? "
Sitting apart in the grand office, Dr Rebecca Smith and the author Laura Vosgen had stopped hardly their childishness. Lisa Eldestein facing the couple was tempted to explode. Another image was relevant of this stressed, tensed situation : the plants under this high-voltage climate had almost begun to fade. Precisely similar to the face of Lisa, tired, upset, exhausted. Laura and Rebecca were boiling inside. Speech had been a mean of externalizing.
Lisa breaks in :
" Rebecca, Laura asked me for an internship. In two weeks, she will be discovering every unit of this humble hospital. "
Shocking revelation. Laura glances outside. Rebecca turns at her, looking for a reaction.
" Sent her away. Sent her home. I don't want to be responsible of this case. I don't want to see her. "
She stands up.
" Rebecca ! Sit. I haven't finished.
- I don't want to listen to this. Lisa, with all respect, how could you agree with this horrible offer ? It's offending. Laura has abused of my patience, the hospital's hospitality.
- Enough ! SIT. "
She proceeds.
" Laura needs inspiration. She recovered plainly in the past few weeks. She asked me and I said yes.
- Can't you remember the past few months, back when she..
- No need to say she, I know all of this affair. "
Her gaze was focused on her. Suddenly, Rebecca felt strange. An odd emotion climbs in her.
" I thought of this place like a huge opportunity. I promise you all my respect, Rebecca. Simply give me two weeks.
- Simply ? Every day is a war around you. You're flirting with workers, harassing others patients and you stole a huge amount of medicine..
- Is it true ? Lisa asks with a smirk.
- I guess. I'm a kid, right. I agree. But when my job is at stake, I am serious. What happened since my arrival pushed me to work again. I doubted of my capacities when I was alone. Now, surrounded by great doctors, I am in good hands and confident. Is that fine ?
- Yes. This is all good but promise me one thing. Rebecca adds, looking away.
- Tell me.
- Don't write about me anymore. Once this two weeks is over, go away and never come back in here. "
Both Laura Vosgen and Lisa Eldestein were shocked by this violent answer. Nor of the two thought of this possibility.
" Do you agree ?
- I am not sure on this last one.. "
Rebecca exploses just before the silly author leaves in a vivid laugh. The director laughs under her desk, waiting for Dr Smith to do the same.
