Pasty mouth. Beginning of a febrile desire to write. Warm skin. Was it the beginning to a new success of a new day ?
Laura Vosgen sat at her desk as soon as she came back from the Royal Hospital. Excitement won her. Her fingers kept hitting the keyboard in a mechanical rhythm. Composing the structure of Doctor Happiness. Papers were tracing bodies, characters, traits and situations. She even thought of a paper dress for Dr Rose Smyth. This event brings the creator to another : diner. Since their meeting on the parking lot ( "Talk about romcom.. " ) Laura kept imagining the multiples and impossibles scenarios. One in the messy infinity of it tells the untold story of a doctor curing the lack of inspiration of her patient who happens to be a successful writer. " Wait a minute, this story is real.."
She falls asleep after this dream developed in her photosensitive memory. Unfortunately, her slippery elbow falls under a pressure, making her heavy head fall hardly on the wood, which itself made a cup of coffee burst into pieces and laughter. Full but cold. She wakes up, a familiar laugh and smile in mind.
The Royal Hospital was fighting against a strong wind of waves, comes and goes of patients on stretchers kept arriving, pushed by exhausted interns. The calls were countless, like the operations, surgeries. The numerous were only reported on cardboards handled, exchanged, between hesitant tensed breaks.
Dr Cate Beckett could feel her head falling in the furnitures of the supply room while Lisa Eldestein lied about her lack sleep. This one found a solution : napping in her office, out of sight. Dr Henri Donovan himself quitted a day ago, leaving the work as an " opportunity " for his students. Dr Smith was the only maintaining the rhythm. Delivering notes, cares, with the same smile and clear face. Oh, you would believe she had a secret to be awake in these times, only she was worrying. Stress would keep up running across the hundreds hallways of the hospital. This morning, Rebecca had found a paper. The picture, suited by a titanic title caught her attention away for a brief instant. Laura Vosgen her favorite writer was posing. Her posture was unusual and she found herself surprisingly hilarious in front of the newspaper.
Then, Dr Rebecca Smith meets with an entire group of arriving patients. Images were displaying severe injuries, and different complex cases. Across the rooms, a wave of new students were introduced to the climate. Cate greets them by handing piles of files, and smiling.
Victor would call every hour to make sure her "genius kid" was working successfully. After the sixth call, Vosgen dismissed. After the first chapter given, the press took part in the massive real fiction, who kept writing by itself. Uncontrollable, the medias decided to catch every single information to produce a own story of the new plan.
" Famous author confirmed publication of another novel, to be published in the Gazette. " - National City's Daily -
" Meet the script doctor, Laura Vosgen explains her point of view of the work in hospitals in Doctor Happiness. " - New American Fiction's review -
" Doctor Happiness, the new novelette in the Gazette, is said to be her second great success. " - IX -
Victor could not keep is eyes and hears away from a TV screen. His phone would not stop ringing in his office. He kept answering, to calls, questions, offers with the same polite :
" Madam Vosgen will answer all of your demands after the publication of the first chapter. "
Lisa Eldestein wakes up, turning up the volume of her radio. Immediately, she screams of joy, catching the attention of Jacob and Isaac who were passing by the grand corridor. She was surprised to learn the publication of the first chapter. She catches the two asking in a whisper she thought was an admission of weakness, of some shame.
" Jacob. Isaac. Fast. Could you get me the Gazette ? Bring it on my desk in a minute.
- But.. Don't we have..
- It is really important. "
They were about to leave in a run when she stands in front, barring their way. Face raised and stern she says directly :
" Don't tell anyone. "
Dr Smith finally got out of the OR at 5 p.m. helped by another wave of students, steamy alongside the rushed shore that is to say the hallway. She was leading her herd, tired but severe. She wouldn't hesitate yelling on the dreamers, laziest, lost or afraid. She was indeed in charge of a great mission by Dr Cate Beckett, Lisa Eldestein : teaching. Rebecca was doing fine in this role.
The group leaded by Rebecca passed by large lane where the superiors' offices were lining. Inside one of those magnificent room, Lisa Eldestein. The Gazette posed on her desk. She felt an hesitation. Curiosity, perhaps. Doubt, on the other hand. Excitation, without a doubt. She finally advances a hand and grabs it straight to her heart. Closing her eyes. She opens the review at the exact page and starts the lecture.
Her eyes moved quickly from a line to another. The smile was a clear sign of victory : success ! The first chapter announced the best. A second major hit was introduced, promised.
" They loved it ! You received more than a thousand of call in a day, shortly after the publication ! Laura, my kid, my lucky charm, you just won.
- What is the most special call you answered ?
- Sorry, what ?
- The best opportunity.
- I-
- Go on, don't be shy, Victor.
- In The Gazette, a brilliant editor asked for your writing. The offer is in the Daily Talk. "
Silence.
" What do you say ? Please, say something. Say anything.
- Yes.
- Congratulations !
- I will write this as a novel, not a novelette in the gazette. I promise. "
Dr Cate Beckett had follow Rebecca for a moment, when she whispers slowly :
" You have her inspiration, didn't you ? "
