something from a few months ago ft rini, my ddlc oc. the first few oneshots in this collection will probably be old pieces, so just keep that in mind on why these suck more than you expected, lmao.

...

Rini's hand gripped onto the doorknob, her cornflower blue eyes unblinking yet brow furrowing. She knew what was behind that door; Monika had told her before that what was currently ahead of her was the Literature Club. She had been reluctant when Monika first offered her to be a member of her little club, engaging with the other members and getting to know each other over their combined love of literature being the main point of it all. But Rini had done her fair share of consideration. The benefits of joining far outweighed the cost.

She swung the door open.

Her first and impulsive impression was that she hadn't thought it through enough and she should just walk out while she still could.

She could recognize four feminine figures all huddled up together, talking among themselves in low voices. She spotted Monika in the small crowd, her facial expression so serious Rini wondered whether or not they were actually long lost twins. A girl with messily cut bubblegum pink hair was muttering words with an angry tone.

"Monika, why didn't you tell me we were getting a new member today! I would've baked cupcakes. I already told you that, didn't I?"

"I remember, Natsuki," Monika said, her voice clearly showing her exasperation.

"So why didn't you tell me if you remembered?" she hissed back at the far taller teen, spitting her words out as if they were like a venomous weapon. Rini knew right off the bat this feisty girl would most likely be the most childish one out of the lot.

"Let it rest, Natsuki," another girl whispered, her back bending over in a seemingly painful way. Rini figured the girl either couldn't stand upright properly or she simply just had a really bad posture.

"This is not your argument, Yuri," Natsuki butted in, prompting said girl to look away and fiddle with the strands of her hair. Rini could easily read the embarrassment written all over her face.

"Uhh, guys," the coral pink-haired girl said, interrupting their bubbling dispute. Her sapphire blue eyes darted back and forth between Rini, who had been silent and observant of the fight, and the three other teens. She slightly tilted her head towards the person stiffly standing across from them. "The new member's already here."

As if on cue, all the girls looked up to face Rini. A small smile formed on Monika's lips as her expression suddenly went from frustrated to welcoming. Yuri nervously clasped her hands together, giving the seemingly intimidating figure a shy look. Natsuki now had her hands on hips, staring at Rini as if she was a predator and she was a prey that had to defend herself. The teen with hair a color that could've rivaled with a pinky coral barreled towards her, encompassing her in a welcome hug that she did not return. Body straightening into place, Rini tried to remember why she even thought of joining the Literature Club in the first place with all her current impressions of doubt and regret.

Rini had been at one of the city's many cafés. It wasn't like she enjoyed the bustling facade of a stereotypical coffee shop. Quite frankly, she never really liked busy places much. The annoyingly loud commotion of kitchenware being used, the neverending chattering of customers and workers alike, the sizzling heat drizzling in through windows, the thickly sweet scent of sugar and condensed milk; all those factors caused her to steer clear of such businesses. All except one particular coffee shop nearby the local park - Kiyohira's Kissaten.
