Rogue's Romance
Prologue

Robert"Run! Robby! Run until you're out of this place and never look back!" My mother's cry resounded throughout the narrow corridor of our pack house. Behind her was my father fending off mad wolves with eyes so red that made me fear for my life.
"No! Mom." I ran up to her. "I won't leave you!" tightening my grip unto her dress, I sobbed on her skirt. I didn't know what was happening, but a part of me knew that when I ran away from here and leave my parents behind, there would be nothing– no one I can go back to, and I feared it more than the savage wolves with crimson eyes. My small fists grasped the fabric of her dress so tight; I was afraid that if I let go, I'll lose them.
My mom kneeled and her slender hands cradled my head on her shoulder. "You have to go, Robby." She said with gentle tone as she pet my hair. "You know Aunt Isabella, right?" Mom asked, holding my face between her loving hands, looking at me with tender care.
Her face appeared much older; Wrinkled eyes, unfixed hair and salty cheeks. This wasn't my cheerful mother that was once singing to me while I laid my head on her lap at the flower-filled meadows. I wanted my mom back, I didn't want this. My tears streamed heavily down my cheeks and she brushed them away with her soft, loving thumbs like she always would whenever I cried at the pettiest of things.
I reluctantly nodded. "Go to her and never come back here. Okay?" She gave me a smile, assuring me that everything was going to be all right, but I couldn't believe her. I can't.
"B-but why?" My voice as little as I am, stuttered. I knew why, but couldn't help but deny the truth, deny the reality in hope that if I wished and prayed hard enough, this would all fade away like a nightmare I'd forget when I wake up in the first light of the day with me tucked in-between my sleeping parents, cuddling into their warm embrace.
"Honey, there are bad people here and I want you to be safe." Her hands dropped to my back and she pressed me closer to her in a tight embrace. Her face tucked in the small crook of my neck, letting her tears fall freely as I hugged her back. "Always remember, mommy and daddy loves you, okay?" Mom sobbed. "We love you so much.." She followed, barely a whisper.
My father's heavy footsteps echoed as he came to us. He was drenched in blood and sweat, from his efforts to save and protect his pack, his family.. me.
"Robby, you have to go now alright?" He knelt in front of me, buried me under his strong arms and spoke with his deep, fatherly tone. "Go to your aunt and be strong." His baritone voice fading into a breathless whisper as I looked at his eyes, pooled with unshed tears. "I love you, son." Dad's tears ran down his blood-stained cheeks. Not once in my life did I saw him cry.
Men do not cry, but when they do.. it is for their beloved. I recall him telling me.
I wanted to refuse and stay with them, but my innocent mind came to a realization that they were sacrificing themselves for my survival. They wanted me alive, even if I wasn't that good of a child every parent longed for. They loved me, simply because. I sobbed once again and for the last time, on my father's broad shoulders, then nodding at his instructions.
I looked at them both through my blurred vision. "I love you too, mom and dad." I wanted them to know. They have done everything for my sake and I knew that I will never have the chance to return the favor. So at least, even though it is far from enough– very far, I wanted them to know that I loved them, and I could not wish for any other parents.
