Leah's question was answered only after seven more hallucinations and nine additional cuts. The other monsters had come back to haunt her mind. The walls had bled, sharing her pain. She was sitting at her usual spot in the bookstore she goes to, tucked away in a corner in case anything like this were to happen. Good thing, too, because she would probably be escorted out if people realized she had passed out over a bean bag.

She wasn't in the same building she was in last time. She wasn't even in a building. Leah was standing on a sidewalk, in the middle of a crowd. She knew she was different than everyone else, but no one seemed to notice or care. Their attention was focused in one direction, so she swiveled her head around and stood on her toes to get a better look. Everything had a pinkish hue to it, like it the whole place was made of rose quartz mixed with other minerals. The ground beneath her was rocks solid, so it might as well have been built beneath the earth.

She saw two fiery birds, and they seemed to be making a speech. Leah couldn't understand a word they were saying, but everyone else seemed to know what the whispers meant. She assumed it was another language or something. They were majestic creatures. She recognized them, and it took her a minute to realize what they were. They were phoenixes.
