Fireworks explode in the sky in kaleidoscopic bursts,
illuminating the water below
I pull my knees to my chest as the tide washes over my sandy feet

As the last firework goes off, the smoke filled sky begins to clear revealing thousands of shimmering stars
I think of how much you'd love this
"Look! There's our home planet," you'd say, pointing at the orange speck that is Mars

Each wave that crashes onto the shore reminds me of how much I want you here
