25 October 2016

It had rained earlier that day, leaving the air cold and the sun blocked out by grey clouds that threatened to release again at any moment. Business was slow on rainy days and she found herself sitting behind the counter, derping around on her phone because she had nothing better to do. Then Yoongi entered.

She hadn't seen him in a few weeks—it seemed as if he disappeared a lot. If he asked, she would never admit it, but she kind of missed his sarcastic ass when he was away. Sometimes she would think about him when someone would buy Northern Downpour or she passed someone smoking on the subway. It made her wonder if he was an international businessman that had frequent trips overseas.

But the way his small frame was always covered in a black hoodie, eyes darting to the side or looking behind him every few minutes made her think otherwise. There was definitely something shady about him, but he was alright.

She waited for the person on the other line to finish what he was saying before speaking. "Hey, Minnie, I gotta go. I have a customer."

Yoongi narrowed his eyes as she put her phone down and looked at him. "Minnie? What kind of name is that?"

"A nickname, smart guy," she shot back.

That only made him smirk as he scanned the store's shelves like he hadn't done just that a couple dozen times. "You make all these yourself?"

"Yep."

"Well—" He paused and pointed at her, snapping a few times. She only furrowed her eyebrows in confusion until he kept snapping in her direction as if trying to remember something.

She figured he was looking for her name. "Victoria?" she tried, though she never recalled ever telling him.

"Victoria," he continued with a small smile. "Color me impressed. You must not get out much, huh?"

"Aaaaand here comes the headache."

Yoongi pursed his lips, giving her a fleeting glance before turning his attention to the bath bombs and bathroom products. "I can help you with that, you know." She watched him pick up a bubble bath bottle and open the lid to sniff. "I know a lot of people. I know where all the parties are."

"You're like a parasite," she murmured and averted her gaze, curious what his response would be. It was true that he pissed her off a lot, but there was something about him she liked. She hated that.

He whipped around to smirk at her, bottle still in hand. "Yet you haven't called the cops on me yet. Notice the paradox here?"

"I assume that's happened to you before." Victoria couldn't hold back her snicker at the thought of Yoongi being hauled out of a store in handcuffs while the girl at the counter looked on in disdain.

"Not the point." He set the bottle down with the lid still open and walked over to lean over the counter so they were face to face. "I think you like me."

She pulled back a bit, face flushing a deep red. She only walked around the counter to go close the lid and he was right behind her. She almost didn't notice his wandering hand. "I think you're crazy—and if you don't get your hand off my ass then I really will call the cops."

"It was just an experiment," he said nonchalantly and took it away.

"Are you gonna buy something or what?"

"Yeah. I ran over my neighbor's dog," he muttered. "You think he'll like bath salts?"

Victoria squeezed her eyes shut and let out a small whine. "Please go away."

"I suppose I can stay longer." Yoongi stopped right next to her and leaned down to say in her ear, "If you insist."

It sent a chill down her spine and another blush to her cheeks while he ventured back toward the counter. There was one candle on a lone shelf above it. There was no price tag and it looked visibly different from the others. Yoongi stood on his tiptoes to grab it, but Victoria rushed over and gripped his wrist, having to stand on the tips of her toes as well. "Don't touch that!"

He pulled back with raised eyebrows, staring at her small hand touching his skin. She quickly let go of him and stared at her dubiously. "Why? Is it a sacred Mother Nature candle?" he joked.

"No." Her eyes darkened and she turned away. "Just please don't touch it. It's very special to me."

"Then why is it on display for everyone to see?" he asked absently, squinting at a light blue and white candle on the wall.

She sighed and went to stand behind the counter again. "I don't want to rob people of its beauty."

"Well, I think this should do the trick," he announced and set a white candle on the counter.

"Fresh Linen?"

Yoongi nodded proudly like a child looking for praise. "Yeah. It's probably a smell he's not familiar with. That dog smells like an old house in Ilsan on the hill where it rains every day and mildew grows over the mold in the walls."

Victoria just stared at him, mouth slightly agape. "Wow, that was specific."

"Just ring me up, Candle Girl."
