The First Case

"This better be worth it" I mutter to myself with a sigh. Outside rain was pouring from the sky, hitting the windshield of my car and making it almost impossible to see anything. I found myself rather glad I had invested in a self driving car at this moment.

The car pulls to the side of an old looking house. Windows even seemed to be busted in. The front door was ajar, police red and blue flashing across the entrance. As the door to the car flips open I could see the police tape not to far away. It was flapping in the wind and rain, surely close to coming apart right where it was wrapped.

I didn't think of that too much as I pull my hood up tight around my hair. With a small huff I jump out of the car, making a run to the police tape. My shoes splash against the water soaked concrete loudly. I could even feel water splash up and soak the bottom of my jeans.

Yep. This better be good.

"Detroit Police or clearances individuals only, no civilians aloud past this line." An officer steps out in front of me just as I was about to slip under the police line. His eyes were covered by his hat, his hair and clothes protected by the umbrella he held above his head. The jerk didn't even have the decency to hold it over me as well as we spoke.

"Seriously? I'm fucking soaked already! Look, I'm an officer and I don't want to have to get my ID because it's fucking raining and its in my pocket. I'll get my shirt wet if I do." I huff out and shiver, trying to shove my way past. Every passing moment was just another raindrop dripping down my back. I did not like the rain at all.

"Officer (L/N)? I didn't know you were on this case." The officer looks up, his eyes meeting mine for a moment in confusion. His name was Charles, one of the officers I had worked with on cases before.

"Yeah well I didn't either, not until about five minutes ago so let me through." My arms wrap around my waist and grip it tightly, willing the rain away. I had already soaked one uniform today. It seemed I might have to make that two, with the way things were going here.

"I'm sorry Officer, you don't have-"

"Just let her through Charles." Hank's voice barked from behind the officer. After being prompted the man let me slip past him and towards the house. I happily do just that, once again letting my shoes slap against the soaked ground and soak the bottom of my pants even more.

"Thanks Hank!" I call as I pass him, jumping under the cover of the porch. Hank was just standing out in the rain for some reason. A frown was evident on his face, but that was probably because Conner was standing right beside him.

The detective looked over at said android before stepping up onto the porch after me. His arms were crossed in a rather pissed off manor, his fingers twitching and curling almost like he was ready to punch someone. Thankfully it didn't seem to be me. Instead he leaned against the wall of the house. "We've been waiting on you for a few minutes. Conner here didn't want to go into the crime scene without 'the whole team'."

I chuckle at Hank's anger. Once you got used to him, his non-disappearing anger and self deprecating comments found a spot in your heart. Of course he didn't seem to be too fond of my comfort around him. His glare was harsh and full of all the information I needed to know. Well, enough information to wipe the smirk off my face.

Instead of furthering Hank's anger with the world, I look up at Conner. The android hadn't spoken first, which seemed weird considering all other androids. He was standing silently beside me. His LED flashed yellow as he observes Hank, probably trying to decode and decipher his anger. I wished him luck with that.

"Hey, Conner! Fill me in on the details of the case. We need to go ahead and check it out and then get out of here, I don't know about you two but I want to get home." I offer almost feebly. The tension in the air was growing with every moment, Hank's anger and Conner's silence not really blending well together. I push off of the railing I had been leaning on and head towards the house. As I pass Conner, I grab onto his arm and pull him along as well. Or, try to that is. He was an android much stronger than me. One tug on his arm didn't get me anywhere.
