Chapter 1
CLANK
CLANK
CLANK
All I hear is the sound of the chains that bind me, dragging on the cool stone floor, the pounding of boots leading me down the dark hall to my demise. It's what I want, after all... The very thing that made me want to leave is the very thing that makes me want to stay... One word:
HINATA
Yes, my beautifully naive cousin. The very one I've resented my whole life. The very one I fell in love with.
As I'm lead down the corridor, water dripping somewhere unseen (perhaps my mind), I'm givin time to think my last thoughts. My thoughts are only of Hinata, of course. Who else? I was the one who did this to her in the first place... I was the one who got us into this mess. This mess that's caused Hinata so much pain... This is why I have to fix it.
I know Hinata's waiting for me... I know she's waiting for her worst nightmare to come true, but she'll forget me in time. She'll forget me and marry someone they've picked out for her: a nice, handsome, respectful man who can carry out the bloodline as needed. I was not what they needed. They can't do anything to Hinata, she's way too valuable... They do not value me as anything more than a shinobi who they can use for life-threatening missions...
Hinata will eventually forget me, and she'll be happy. She'll be happy, and the sweet memory of me will fade in time. She may wonder why part of her heart is missing, but she won't realize it's because I stole it from her. She may have flashes of dark hair, and lavender eyes, looking right through her. She might have flashes of soft lips and clammy hands. She might search for the source of those faint memories, but she won't have a reason to... She'll have a new life, full of time that will preoccupy herself from those memories... She'll be happy....
Right?
