Chapter 3

Jamie POV.

Mum and dad walked in a little while later.

"So......" I asked. I was sitting on my bed, the kite still on my arm.

"Um, so honey we have decided that you can't keep it." my mum said nervously.

"WHAT? WHY NOT?" I screamed, they flinched and the kite- I really need to think of a name- squeaked.

"Just joking! you can keep him!" Dad said happily. My jaw hit the floor. yes!!! wait, did they just call her a him?

"Um, dad, it's a her." he smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry." We just started laughing, even the kite. It sounded like it was choking and call at the same time.

Mum cut the laughing fit short by asking a question,

"What are you going to name it?"

'I already have a name thank you.'

All our heads whipped to the kite sitting comfortably on my arm.

"Mum? did my kite just talk?"

'Yes I did'

"Wha? huh? derrr?" my mum stammered. I think she meant what the heck?

'Um.... what are you? I mean not in an offensive way, I mean.. um.... kites don't talk, grrrr." why can't I talk? I thought angrily.

'It's okay I know what you mean. and the answer is I'm a kite spirit, and I have a gift for you.' she answered. i looked over to mum and dad, they were talking and mum looked like she would pass out.

"Um... what is the gift?" I asked.

'I will gift you my spirit.' my jaw dropped.

"What?"

'You will be the one, and only, kite shifter.' mum and dad's heads whipped back to us.

"What the f@cking hell does that mean?" my dad yelled. I flinched.

'It means she will be able to have the abilities of a kite. She will be able to have wings and arms or have sharp talons, and is she choses she can turn her entire body into a kite. Her hearing, speed and eye sight will also be immeasurably increased.' Lila explained. That sounds so cool! I will be awesome!

Dad opened his mouth to speak but cut him off, "I accept your gift."

"Are you sure honey, you will have to not tell anyone?" mum asked. I nodded. She sighed.

'Great now let's get started.' Lila said happily. The wind picked up. mum looked like she would wet her pants. The wind swirled around me and I saw a bright flash and the world went black.

"Jamie! Jamie!! JAMIE!" I opened my eyes slowly and saw mum hovering above me looking frantic.

"Oh hey mum." her eyes filled with relief.

"How do you feel honey?" dad asked me leaning down to see if I was hurt.

"No different." I replied honestly.

"Honey, Lila said you can have wings, will you try it?" mum asked gently.

"I don't know how to. mum can I first have a minute to myself?" I asked looking up into her eyes. she nodded slowly and she and dad walked out of my room and closed the door behind them.

"Lila? where are you?" I saw her sitting on the end of my bed. She looked up at me.

'I'm here. I'm guessing you would like to know how to shift?' I nodded.
