Chapter 20: Memory Lane

"You- What?" Hopper asked for clarification.

"Kali can trick the mind into what you saw was real. She's shown me butterfly's before." Eleven explained.

"What was her name?" Cassidy asked.

"Sarah." Hopper answered.

"Oh my god." Erin came to realization.

"What?" El turned to her.

"When Hopper and I were captured by lab people, there was a girl with powers there." Erin nodded.

"Did they say her number?" Kali asked, looking at Erin.

"I think it was two." Erin nodded. The color in Kali's face drained, as a flashback come.

"You want two to be here forever, right?"  Dr. Brenner crouched down.

"Yes papa." Five year-old Kali smiled.

"Then I need you to do something for Papa."

The flashback ended just as it had started, making Kali confirm it.

"I met Sarah when I was five," Kali spoke into the walkie-talkie. She paused. "She could predict the future and manipulate memories. We bonded how our powers were so alike yet so different. She was my best friend until Eleven got here." Kali sighed.

"Kali." Erin heard demadogs and demagorgons from downstairs.

"Brenner asked me to do something for him, so Sarah and I could stay friends forever." Kali shivered.

"Kali." Erin nudged her arm.

"And I did it." Tears dropped from Kali's eyes.

"Kali!" Erin yelled.

"What!" Kali turned towards her.

"Do you here that." Erin said in a much softer voice.

Kali focused on her hearing. "Shit."

"Guys what's happening?" Hopper asked.

"They're here." Cassidy answered.

"Guys what is here?" Hopper asked.

"How many could there be?" Kali asked, putting the walkie-talkie on her belt.

"I hear two demagorgans and three demadogs." Erin nodded.

"Okay," Kali swung the rifle off her back. "We kill the demagorgans and demadogs together. No one is being sent to the upside down today. Then Hopper and Will?"

"Yeah?" Hopper and Will asked from the other line.

"You guys have to run like hell to the control room. Those five can't be the only ones down here." Kali ordered everyone.

"What about you guys?" Will asked.

"We'll meet you there." Cassidy explained.

"Alright," Erin swung the bat over her shoulder. "Let's do this."

Hopper and Will stopped walking and leaned against the walls. Hopper thought about what had just happened, and that maybe he might see his daughter again. He then thought about how he and Erin had already formed a father-daughter bond that he and El also have. Maybe Erin and Cassidy would stay with them for awhile.

Static came from the walkie-talkie after crashes and yelling, Erin's heavy breath could be barely heard.

"Run." Erin spoke into the walkie-talkie, and Hopper and Will started running for their lives.
