Leelee carried a bowl of popcorn into the living room and placed it in her mother's lap, taking a seat beside her. "Did you choose a movie?" Lee asked her
"We were going to let you choose," Lindsey told her as he sat on the other side of his wife
"Disney," His daughter chuckled
"What about The Little Mermaid?" Stevie asked and Leelee nodded vigorously. She remembered seeing it in theaters with her dad and immediately buying it on video tape when it was released."Great! I have the story book somewhere around here. I read it to you when you were little."
"The book isn't as happy and cheery as the movie," Lindsey said with a laugh.
"True, but it was the bonding that counted," Stevie replied"I liked the book," Leelee giggled, "I'd read it to my kid."
"Then I'll go find it soon and we'll put it in the nursery."
"Thanks, mom. Now, let's start the movie."Lindsey got up and retrieved the video tape and popped it in the VCR. He plopped back down on the couch and hit play on the remote control. "Pass the popcorn, Steph."
"You have to work for it," she grinned mischievously"I can do that," Lindsey kissed her cheek
"Nope," Stevie shook her head, receiving a kiss on the lips before she let him have popcorn
"Gross!" Leelee grimaced, scooting away from her parents. "Aren't you two a little old to be acting like children?""Says the teenager begging to watch Disney movies." Lindsey laughed. "You're never too old to have a little fun."
"I'm just not used to seeing it," Leelee shrugged"I think everything is going to take a little adjusting," Stevie commented
"It will," Lindsey agreed
The movie began and Leelee felt herself focusing more on her parents than the film. Seemingly within hours, they were holding hands and kissing. She even noticed her mother laying her head on her father's shoulder as she watched the movie. Stevie reached her hand into the popcorn bowl and offered Lindsey a popped kernel. He opened wide and she giggled as he attacked her fingertips, licking off the butter."You're so silly," Stevie whispered playfully.
"I'm happy," Lindsey shrugged"So am I." She squeezed his hand and kissed him once more. They were like two teenagers who couldn't keep their hands to themselves
"I think I'm going to bed," Leelee yawned once the movie had finished, having cried through half of it...Stevie did as well
"Want me to tuck you in?" Stevie offered even if the girl was sixteen
"Okay," Leelee surprised her by answering
Stevie stood up, squeezing Lindsey's hand one last time before following their daughter up the stairs. Everything was falling into place and Stevie was happy Leelee agreed to let her tuck her in."I'm going to change into my pajamas. Be right back." Leelee said, slipping into the bathroom.
Stevie sat on her daughter's bed, smiling. The day had a few hiccups but everything was perfect now. She was slowly becoming the mother she dreamed of being.
"I'm all set", Leelee said as she came out of the bathroom in a Fleetwood Mac tour T-shirt and shorts"You look so cute," Stevie gushed, "even if my fave is stretched out on your shirt." Speaking of how the picture on the fabric expanded over Lee's bump
"Hey! Not nice!" Lee said, feigning being upset, then ultimately giggling."You know I'm kidding. I think you look great, and I'm happy I get to be here to watch you grow!" Stevie grew sentimental, tears welling up in her eyes. "Gosh, you'd think I was the hormonal one!," she joked.
"Don't cry! I'll cry!" Leelee sat beside her mother and hugged her tightly
