Once Chaz dropped me off, I invited him into the house to stay a bit longer, just to chat, but he kindly declined my offer and reminded me how late it had gotten and that he had work in the morning. It sucks that he has to work on a Saturday.
"I had a great time. You're nice to be around," he'd said.
"Yeah, I enjoyed tonight," I'd agreed with him.
"I'll see you later then." He'd closed the conversation with a sweet, soft kiss on my cheek, taking me a bit by surprise, but I'd freely let it happen. It was nice.
"Goodnight," I'd waved to him as he walked back to his shiny, dark sedan.
So now on this Saturday morning, as Chaz is working at the bookstore, I continue writing on the same sheet of paper I'd recently written about Justin on (my alternative for my journal at the moment), all about the beautiful night Chaz and I had. And Justin couldn't even ruin it for us.
The thrilling rides, the exciting games, the time alone spent together; it was all simply magical...
Just as I tuck the paper back into the drawer of my desk suspending my entry, the front door sounds knocks that refuse to adjourn. I quickly sit up from my swivelling chair and rush to the front door, saying "I'm coming, I'm coming" over and over. When opened, Ryan stands on the porch with one of the biggest smiles I've seen him muster in a while.
"What?" I ask through a smile, referring to why he's smiling so wide.
"Sophia's coming back," he beams.
I smile almost as wide as he does at the thought of him seeing the love of his life once again after all this time they've been away from each other. I also can't help but think about how I'll get to meet her for the first time.
"Wow, that's great. When?" I eagerly ask, stepping out of the house and onto the porch, closing the door behind me so we can chat some more on this nice, breezy day.
"She's getting off the plane at four o' clock. I'm going to give her a surprise when she gets back to her flat," he says.
"A surprise? Like what?" My curiosity takes its toll.
"I don't know, maybe some cheesy candle light dinner and get her some jewelry?" We both laugh at the cliché idea. "We'll just celebrate her journey to the Broadway stage, I guess."
My eyes widen in realization. "Wait, so you mean she got in? She made it through the audition?" Ryan nods and his smile only gets bigger. "Wow, that's great, Ryan!"
We embrace each other in a tight hug and I feel so happy for the both of them. I feel like Sophia is going to become huge one day, her talent taking over and all. And I can't imagine how proud Ryan must feel.
"Yeah, she told me over the phone earlier today and it sounded like she couldn't even try to contain her excitement. She just sounded so, so happy." He looks out into the distance with an unreadable grin. After a few moments of him daydreaming, he turns back to me. "Hey, you should come with me to surprise her, it'll be great. And you'll even get to finally meet her."
I think for a moment, not wanting to intrude. But knowing Ryan, he doesn't mind if I tag along.
"I'd love to."
He flashes one last grin and pulls me to his car to begin our drive to Sophia's house, which I have no idea where, is located.
Sometimes I wish I had as perfect of a relationship as Ryan and Sophia's. I know I sound like a broken record, but they seem like the happiest couple ever, and I haven't even had to see them both together to come to that conclusion.
