chapter 9
"Calum, why are you so worried?" Ashton asked his best friend as he fell back onto his bed. "You're probably the one that's going to become popular. I'm probably the one that's going to become a nerd." He added, giggling as he watched Calum pace around the little bedroom. The walls filled with band and movie posters, and polaroid pictures of the two boys that were taped above the bed frame.
"Because Ash, it's high school! Like, we aren't kids anymore.. everything's going to be different and once you get a reputation, you're stuck with it." Calum sighed and sat on bed next to his friend, the bed squeaking a little under the weight of the two now teenaged boys.
"So, just don't get the reputation of being a dick or a fuckboy and you should be good," Ashton replied, barely getting his response out without a giggle.
"Oh, ha ha.. if anything I'll get the reputation of being Mali's younger brother.."
"And how is that bad? Mali is literally an angel. Lauren and Harry are going to be known as my siblings.. so if anyone has it rough it's them."
"I don't know I just, I want to make a reputation for myself.."
"Well you will Cal," Ashton replied, placing his hand on Calum's knee gently, in a comforting way. "But, we literally just got out of eighth grade dude, you have all of Summer to relax before you have to worry about any of that."
Calum sighed and looked at Ashton, noticing the sparkle in his eye as his smile got wider. "I guess you're right.. let's make this a summer to remember, full of firsts." He smiled and laid back onto the bed, looking up at the ceiling. "Right after this quick nap." He added, closing his eyes.
"First nap of the summer.." Ashton said, mocking Calum.
"The first of many," he added, smiling as he turned his head to the side to look at Ashton, who only shook his head in response.

Buzz.
Ashton rolled over onto his side and opened his eyes a little, adjusting to the darkness around him. He felt around his bed for his phone and clicked the home button, wincing as the screen lit up. He slid the screen up, and lowered the brightness the the dimmest possible before he unlocked his phone and opened his Instagram.
New message from cdizzle.
cdizzle: "It's nice to finally talk to you, Ashton."
Ashton looked at his phone confused. Finally? Why would anyone want to talk to him willingly? Sometimes he wondered if his family even wanted to talk to him willingly.
ashtonirwin94: "Finally? What do you mean finally?"
cdizzle: "I just mean like, I've seen you at school but have always been to scared to talk to you.. so it's nice to talk to you."
Ashton buried his head into his pillow and groaned. Not only was it too late to think, but Ashton was too tired to think.
Why on earth would anyone want to talk to him willingly?
This has to be a joke, it just has to.
Ashton sighed and put his phone down, too exhausted to even type out a response. If this person really did want to talk to him, then they'd be fine with waiting until the morning for a response.
