"Da Reum, are you hungry?" Yuna asked as she came out of her room. "I know I said I'd wait, but I'm flippin starving so I'm just going to make something now."
"Yeah, I'm hungry." He answered without looking away from the TV, thoroughly engrossed in a drama. "Here it comes, he's gonna get hit by a car." He said to no one in particular.
Yuna took ingredients out of the fridge, washed them and laid them out to cut up. She smiled at the gasps coming from Da Reum during the excessively dramatic parts while she sliced vegetables up into small pieces. She heard the door click open down the hall and smiled.
"That was much quicker than I thought. You were supposed to call me, I could have started this a long time ago. I'm so hungry." She pouted while she continued her work, not looking up. Expecting some answer from Taeyong, but getting none, she glanced up from the counter.
She froze.
The man stood relaxed at the opening of the dark hallway, his large body leaning against the frame with his arms crossed, eyeing her with a smirk on his face. Her lips parted, but no sound came out as her brain tried to decide whether to say something or just scream.
"Oh my god!" Her brothers voice cut through the quiet tension.
She jolted at the exclamation and her eyes flicked to Da Reum, who was still engrossed in his show. The man's body shook with a silent laugh.
"I'm sure you can guess who I am, right baby doll?"
Da Reum's head turned at the unfamiliar voice, surprised to see the unknown man staring creepily at his sister. Her eyes were filled with horror and her face was completely devoid of color. He cautiously stood up.
"Who are you?" He asked.
"Me? He turned to him, then back to Yuna and chuckled. "I'm your noona's new daddy."
"Get out." Da Reum took a few steps forward.
"Stay there, Da Reum." Yuna instructed him from behind the counter.
"Yeah, stay back, kid. I have no interest in you. I only came for her." He started to walk toward her.
It happened so quickly, but in Yuna's eyes it was a never ending moment of terror. Da Ruem lunged toward him and grabbed the man's thick wrist to pull him back. He spun and shook him off, knocking the boy back, but with his adrenaline taking over, Da Reum quickly got back up and continued to pull at the man who greatly outweighed his slender frame. He seemed not to budge until he turned around and reached out, his meaty hand grasping around Da Reum's neck. With a quick, jerking motion, the man pushed him back into the wall. Da Ruem's eyes were full of panic and his fingers struggled to pull the hand from his throat.
A guttural roar erupted from Yuna's throat. She ran from behind the counter with the knife she was using in her hand. She frantically slashed out at the man's arm that held Da Reum. In one second his skin was bare and the next, a long red gash formed on the outside of his forearm. He yelled and instinctually pulled his arm back, freeing Da Reum from his grip.
"Move!" Yuna yelled to him as she held the knife up toward the man with shaking hands.
"You stupid bitch." He bared his teeth at her and in one quick move, swung his arm full force. The weight of his body propelled his hand and his closed fist slammed against the side of her face. A flash of white burst in her eyes on impact. First her head and then her body followed, her feet lifting off the ground as she flew into the wall near her. She heard the dull thud and quiet cracking of the wall as her forehead made contact. Then her shoulder hit, followed by a loud pop and her fingers went numb. Her body was suddenly heavy as it fell to the floor like dead weight.
