My throat began to burn horribly and I collapsed in Wes's arms, unable to stand and barely breathing. Every time I blinked something disappeared, one by one people began to just flicker out and a black smoke began to form around everywhere.
Everyone disappeared until it was just me and Wes. He cradled me in his arms and looked down at me with teary eyes. "Wake up." I heard someone whisper in the back of my head but I could only focus on Wes's face now. He looked amazing, something made him look all shiny and bright. "...You need to wake up." I lifted my hand to his face, his tears fell down my fingers and I was suddenly two inches from his face.
"Wake up." It was so peaceful and he looked beautiful, I couldn't describe it.
I looked Wes in the eyes, "Don't cry. I'm okay." My voice sounded raspy and weak, but I felt fine. Everything felt completely fine about me except my throat hurt now.
"You will die if you don't wake up."
"I don't want to wake up," I whispered, "I feel good here."
"You'll die." He whispered again before I felt his lips upon mine and everything else including me disappeared.
I don't remember ever being in so much pain. Everything felt broken and on fire, I could barely breathe without my throat stinging and my ribs feeling like they were being crushed.
"We did everything we could for him, its time for him to wake up on his own. You'll be lucky if he isn't in this state forever, the car hit the driver and Brian the worst." Someone said, but they sounded muffled. "Both of you try to relax and just be there for him, talk to him."
Footsteps came closer and I felt someone settle next to me on the bed I was on. There was a couple of sniffles before two different people grabbed my hands.
"Come on Brian, you need to wake up." I heard Wes say, his voice sounded husky as if he'd been crying. Why was he crying? "C'mon, I cant lose you too."
Oh no, what happened? I tried to move but my body wouldn't listen to me. My heart rate didn't even increase a single beat. My chest ached from failure, Wes sighed and I felt his head fall onto my chest.
"Abby, go get some rest..." Wes trailed off. "I don't think he's going to wake up... for a while." He added slowly. I tried again to move but I couldn't, feeling was just beginning to come back to me but my body still wasn't waking up.
I heard a chair scrape away from the bed and started walking away. No, I wasn't going to give up yet. So I tried the last thing I could think of and tried my voice. A muffled groan exploded from my throat, making Wes jump a foot in the air and Abby's footsteps stop.
"Oh my god, Brian?" Wes squeezed my hand again, tightly.
Now I felt more awake and slowly opened my eyes and mouth. Wes gaped before smiling gently and looking over at Abby, "He's awake." I looked at Abby who burst into more tears and wrapped her hands around my face.
"Oh thank god, go get the doctor Wesley." Abby didn't take her eyes off of me and littered my face with kisses again, like when I had gotten my throat slit. "Why'd this have to happen?" she whispered in pain and let her head fall down onto my chest.
"W-what's- what happened Abby?" my voice sounded raspy and weak, I guess I'd been unconscious for a while.
"What do you remember?" she asked back with a sniff.
"I-I remember waking up and Wes leaving, then I got ready and walked to school." I recalled and thought more ahead, "Then things got weird, Wes, Ryan and I were walking around the school and suddenly people started to disappear... after that my head and chest began to hurt." As I spoke a wave of pain hit my head and I winced, "Then Ryan disappeared and Wes was left holding me. I could hear something in the background but I cant remember what the voice said. Then I woke up here."
Abby shook her head, "You had the first part about getting ready but you were going to a party."
I looked at her in confusion, "Wha-"
"You and Ryan were hit hard by a truck. Wes was out of the range of the hit but you two got it the worst." She stopped and sobbed in pain. "R-Ryan was hit head on, he lost an arm and is still unconscious, under drugs to keep him asleep but you were in a coma by the time you arrived to the hospital."
I gaped a little at Abby and she burst into tears again. She... Ryan was Abby's son. No one would react this way unless they were family. She tried to pull away but I yanked her to me and hugged her as tight as I could without hurting myself too much.
"Don't worry Abby, he'll be fine." I whispered to her as Wes and the doctor re-entered the room. Wes took a seat by my side and grabbed one of my hands as soon as I was done hugging Abby and calming her down.
"So..." my doctor began with a stern look at me, I smiled guiltily and waited for her to continue, "...you broke your shoulder and arm in the crash, along with being in a coma."
"What happened to Ryan, other than the loss of his arm?" I asked, Wes leaned in to hear what the Doc had to say.
"He broke a few ribs and had to have a lot of stitches from glass shards." She looked down at her report, "The driver of the truck was drunk and ended up with a concussion, he's been arrested and going to serve time in jail for under aged drinking and speeding."
Wes nodded and looked at me, "How are you feeling?"
I thought about it, "not too bad, I have a headache though." My head continued to pound painfully and I winced again, "Really bad one too."
Wes frowned and looked back at the doctor, "He hit his head a couple times in the crash. There were quite a few bruises found on his head that formed quickly when the paramedics picked him up. We will have to watch him for a day or two to make sure he's in the clear."
Mark came into the room right after the doctor finished talking and sat at the end of my feet. His concerning look made me smile softly and tell him I was fine. Wes squeezed my hand again and I looked over at him, my heart ached, remembering the kiss I had with him in my dream. My eyes flashed to his lips before I was distracted by the doctor once again.
"We will wake you up every hour from here on out until we know you don't have a concussion. Are you ready to eat anything?" she asked me after giving me the information.
My stomach rumbled at the thought of food and I nodded with a small blush. I heard Abby give a weak laugh and rub my shoulder lovingly. Mark came over to me and gave me a hug, careful not to hurt me and gave me the two ipods from home.
"Since you'll be here a while I thought you'd like something to do." He gave me a gentle smile and looked at Wes with a piercing gaze. When I looked over Wes was looking down and Mark was saying his goodbyes and walking out the door. I looked over at Abby in confusion and an amused look formed on her teary face.
She got up and kissed me on the forehead, "Call me if you need anything dear, I want full updates every morning." I smiled at her motherly tone and actions but nodded all the same. Abby went over and gave Wes a hug and made her way to the door.
Wes cleared his throat and looked up at me, "Do you remember anything from the party?"
I shook my head, "I only remember a hallucination, maybe something mixed in with it but I can't recall a thing." Wes nodded but I couldn't read his expression, he wasn't letting me see anything, "Tell me what happened."
