This web comprises at least 90% of the internet. Major search engines such as Google and Bing can not access it. A wide section of the network is academic journals and databases, which generate unique pages when used.
However, below them is the anonymous TOR network. In this section of the deep web, you will discover black markets distributing body parts, stolen vehicles, drugs, and illegal pornography. Sales are made through untraceable currency known as Bitcoins. TOR networks protect users' data from government monitoring, and were instrumental in arranging the Arab Spring.
The deep web is estimated to contain 4 billion pages, which is approximately 400 to 500 times more than the amount of the surface web. Typical search engines only search through 0.03% of the total available pages.
Due to the sheer size of the deep web and the depth of the information within, it can only be accessed by the TOR browser. A strict list of guidelines must be followed to ensure that your activity will remain anonymous since TOR usage is often subject to being monitored by the authorities, as well as occasionally containing vulnerabilities that may leak your IP address.
