Arrowing the phantom, part 1

  The Cave  5:00 pm

   "Whoa ! He's really cold."
   "Okay, now give me the hair gel."
    "Now his hair looks like fire."
     "So. Fire's cool. You brough the face paint, right ?"
      "Yep. They didn't have white, so I bought blue."
      "Dude, that's turquoise."
       "Whatever. There ! I got some pointed ears and fangs too."
      "Perfect. If he's gonna be afterliving with us, we better give him a nice taste of our shenaningas."

      The whispers belong to none others than the pranksters of the Team, Robin and Kid Flash, as they mess up with a sleeping Phantom on the couch, witch didn't knew the golden rule : never fall asleep if the Trouble Duo was nearby.

   Who cares how you were when you were younger ? It's who you grow into that makes you who you are.
   
    He never regreted those words as much as he did now.
     Now, when they were gone, now when the world was in ruin because of him, now that he was ...
      B-but he promised he'll never become like him. That was the whole purpose of a promise. If he broke one, who knows what others will he break ?
    
    Then why did Clockwork let this happen ? Why could he let this happen again ?!
   
    I'm inevitable.

    In that moment, Danny felt something pressing aganist his face.
    Opening his eyes, the ghost boy found himself on the floor.
    Some muffled giggles could be heard nearby.
    "Morning, sleeping beauty." a very amused Boy Wonder greeted him.
     Groaning, Danny floated upwards and began steching himself.
    "Did you sleep well." a laughing Wally joined in.
     "I've slept better, but also I've slept worst, so meh." Danny shrugged.

     M'gann entered the room, going to the kitchen to try a new recipe, but suddenly stopped when she saw Phantom.
   "I didn't knew ghosts go through metamorphosys." the martian murmured for herself.
     "Uh, our form can change permanently, but only in certain circumstances." Danny replied.
"And what were the circumstances that caused your change ?" M'gann asked curiously.
A few seconds passed as there was a confused silence in the room, save for the muffled laughter.
"What are you talking about ?" Danny titled his head "My ghost form's the same as always."
In that moment, the Fastest Kid Alive couldn't muster himself and broke into histerics.
"Phantom," Robin put a hand on his shoulder, while he was also trying and failing to control his laughter " you might wanna check a mirror."
Danny raised an eyebrow at their unusual behavior and, using his ice powers, absently created a flat ice cristal.

When he saw his reflection, the halfa suddenly forgot how to breath.
Staring back at him, was him.
No. No way.
He defeated him. Clockwork said the future was saved. He promised !

"Um, Phantom ?" M'gann asked worried. She could easily feel the raw fear, the horror, the dispair that was radiating from their den mother. "Are you okay ?"
She lightly touched his shoulder, but the sudden movement suddened him, breaking the ice into shards.
"Get away !" Danny tried to back away, but tripped and fell down.
       Wally and Robin, seeing as their prank escaladed quickly, became concerned and worried.
       "Whoa ! Phantom, it's okay ! It's just a prank, see ? the Boy Wonder said as pointed to the equipment they used.
        Danny took a few moments to process what he just said.
       "Oh, uh, o-okay. I'm gonna go to the bathroom to wash it off and you're never gonna do that again." the ghost boy said pissed while going to the restroom, leaving the confused and guilty teens behind.

When Danny returned back to the living room, having washed away the make-up and bottled up the negative emotions, he was surprised to see an unexpected guest chatting with Wally and Robin.
"Uh, hi. You're Speedy, right ? Can I help you ?" Phantom greeted Green Arrow's ex sidekick.
The red head glared at him through his domino mask, while also studying the glowing teen.
"It's Red Arrow, newbie !"
"Whoa, sorry. Just tryin' to be nice." the ghost boy backed away.
"So, who's the recolored version of Chip Skyler in thighs ?" the archer asked .
"Red Arrow, meet Phantom. He's ..." Robin started but suddenly stopped, realizing what effect it might have on his short tempered friend.
"Uh, it's crazy. You see, Phantom never had a mentor and, though he's our age ... it's kinda funny when you think about it." Wally rambled, trying to ease the reaction.
Red Arrow raised an eyebrow at his friend's stranger behavior.
"I'm their den mother. Batman asked me to join the league not too long ago." Danny answered clueless to the tension that filled the room.
A few seconds of tensed silence passed too slowly, before the archer sucked a breath.
"WHAT ?!" Red exclaimed, making everyone in the room flinch "You're telling me that the league didn't accept me in, but they invited that dipstick ?!"
"Well, he did beat up Superboy. And he never had a mentor. And he had superheroing for three years now ..." Robin tried to reason.
"Well, we've been helping our parteners to save lives for just as long, yet they never considered us equals." Red Arrow retorted.
"Look, " Danny said trying to calm down the archer " I never wanted to be in the league, but Batman basically forced me. I haven't spent much time with the other leaguers, but if your mentors think you aren't ready, then maybe, until you prove yourselves, you should stay sidekicks."
Robin and Wally suddenly looked panicked as Red Arrow snapped, grabbing Phantom's collar and bringing him closer.
"Don't. Ever. Call us sidekicks !"
With that he vionlently let him go and stormed off to the Zeta Beams.

Amity Park 6:00 pm

"You did what ?!"
"You did what ??"
"I told you, I was trying being nice to him. Not my fault he's a short tempered jerk." Danny defended himself. "But, why the heck did you do that ?!"
"Danny, " Jazz started patiently " you need some positive social interaction from someone your age. And superheroes don't count. You need to take a break from all the weirdness and experience some normalicy. That's why I organised you a blind date."
"Jazz, I apreciate your help, but I prefer doing things my way. If I wanned ask someone out, I would've done it."
"Like Sam ? Come on, Danny. It's just a date. You'll never have to see this person ever again afterwards. I found someone from outside the town, someone who doesn't know about the Fenton family. And, I made sure that's your type : stubborn, strong, with good intentions, badass and, of course, a little intimidating."
"Fine. I'll try. But, for the record, if it turns into a disaster date, I blame you."
Jazz smiled while Danny hoped he won't regret his choice.

Star City 7:00 pm

Danny entered the cheap restaurant. Not the best place for a date, but he did want this to end as soon as possible, so he'll have to sass his way out of another of one his problems.

The black haired scanned the place for the person he was supposed to waste the rest of his evening with. Not that time would be a problem. The half ghost always made duplicates to protect the town whenever he left . But it didn't happen as often as he would think. The Justice League didn't send him in any mission or metting so far, wich was fine, but he checked on the Team as often as he could.

When Danny finally spotted the one from the pretty controversial picture Jazz sent him, he walked casually to the occupied table.
"Are you The Smexy 666 ?"Danny asked the red haired.
'"Yeah. You must be Ghost Boy 14. I'm Roy. Roy Harper.

So, I'm just gonna leave a cliffhanger over here.
No, I didn't change my mind, Danny's not paired with Roy. I just wanted them to interact in an interesting way.
But, if I'd pair Danny with someone in this book, it'll be Valerie. ( it's cannon and I've always been a Gray Ghost fan).
By the way, I'm thinking about making another book with DP one-shots, though I may get bussier. What do you think ? (I'll make Danny x Superboy, Danny x Spiderman and other ideas I have)
