Midnight
"My precious Son should've been asleep by now. What's keeping you awake?"
His Mother walked into the living room and made herself comfortable beside him. Hong Bin shrugged and rolled his head back against the sofa.
"I'm going to university soon and I was wondering if maybe I could... stay at the dorms?", Hong Bin asked timidly.
"Why?"
"W-Well, it doesn't cost much and I've saved quite a bit with the jobs I took during my break! And also, it'll be more convenient for me too..."
Hong Bin prayed silently in his heart, hoping his mum would agree. Throughout the years, the Lee parents had always protected Hong Bin whenever they could, reason being that he was their only child after years of trying. And being a filial child, Hong Bin never talked back or questioned them, even if he got pissed about it sometimes.
"Well, technically, it's my friend's house. But it's just a five minute walk from his place to the school. So can I please please pleeeease move in there for the next few years?", Hong Bin pleaded like his life depended on it."
Mrs Lee thought for a brief moment before replying, "Alright, but we'll meet that Friend of yours first. First thing in the morning tomorrow, so go sleep now okay?"
"Yes! He won't disappoint you mum! Thank you, good night," Hong Bin wasn't the biggest fan of affection, but the adrenaline and excitement made him give his mum a kiss on the cheek.
He jumped onto his bed and took out his phone again.
Hong Bin💫
Hyuk!!!!!!
My parents are coming tmr🆘
They kinda want to see you and the place
And if all goes well...
I can finally stay with you😌
Ahh, it's late. Hope you're having sweet dreams💓Morning
Hyuk sat right up the moment his loud and blaring alarm went off. He took a moment to wake up and the first thing he did was check his phone.
"Fuck," Hyuk panicked as he scanned his surroundings.
Firstly, his room was a big mess. His living room was probably worse. Secondly, it was already close to noon and Hong Bin's parents and him would arrive in less than an hours time.
Wasting no more time, Hyuk sprang out of bed and threw his laundry in a basket. He arranged and stacked his books aside while hiding the stupid newsletters Hong Bin used to deliver to him.
Once done, he ran to his living room, dusting the sofa and putting aside the dishes in the sink. Hyuk frantically ran back and forth, vacuuming the whole house before mopping it as quick as possible. In the kitchen, he boiled some water and dashed to the shower.
Ding!
Slipping into his pants, Hyuk shuffled to the door and took a deep breath in.
"Hello Mr and Mrs Lee!"
Hyuk gave them a polite bow and let them into his house first, before Hong Bin. The latter gave him a pat on the shoulder, signalling for Hyuk to relax.
"Have a seat please. Shall I get some tea for you?", Hyuk asked, trying to sound genuine.
Not saying that he wasn't, but he was completely stressed out at the moment he could implode. This was a 'make it or break it' moment. If all goes well, Hong Bin will stay with him! And if he doesn't...
"It's okay dear, thank you. So, you live here on your own?", Mrs Lee asked as she looked around her.
"Yes! Although my parents are p-paying for the rent, I'm responsible for the utility bills here."
"Ah, I see. And you're starting university soon?"
Hyuk nodded. "I'll be majoring in a b-business degree."
Hong Bin noticed Hyuk's slight stuttering and placed his hand on Hyuk's left knee. Hyuk gazed longingly at Hong Bin's hand, wanting to hold onto it so badly but he couldn't. He swallowed thickly and focused on the task at hand.
"Wow, impressive! Actually, could you get us some water? Hong Bin go help him," Mr Lee asked and looked expectantly at his Son.
The two of them scurried to the kitchen and Hong Bin heard Hyuk let out a shaky breath.
"You're doing great, don't stress yourself too much," Hong Bin giggled and cupped Hyuk's cheeks.
Hyuk held Hong Bin's hand and pursed his lips tightly into a line. "I really want you here."
"Relax," Hong Bin placed a kiss onto the younger's forehead and picked up the two glasses of water.
••••
All went well, except for the fact that Mr Lee unintentionally found the newsletters Hyuk was praying so desperately they wouldn't. He gave Hyuk a wink, making the boy's ears turn to a bright shade of red.
"I think Hong Bin can start moving in before classes start?", Mrs Lee said.
Hong Bin excitedly let out a squeal and hugged both his parents, yelling a bunch of 'thank you's' too.
"And since your parents are paying the rent, let as pay the bills. It's the least we could do," Hong Bin's parents suggested.
"A-Ah, it's okay! I can handle it-"
"Please, we insist."
Hong Bin nudged Hyuk and the latter reluctantly agreed, thanking the Lee's once again. They bid goodbye and left Hong Bin, as well as Hyuk, with a bunch of luggages, in the middle of the living room.
Before neither of them could say anything, Hyuk ran into Hong Bin's arms and squeezed the shorter one tightly.
"Told you nothing wrong was gonna happen," Hong Bin smiled warmly, feeling the familiar warmth of Hyuk in his arms. He placed a kiss onto Hyuk's lips, letting them linger for a brief moment before pulling away.
"Let's just leave the unpacking for tomorrow," Hyuk said and tugged the hem of Hong Bin's shirt. "I want to spend time with you now."
The older one chuckled at Hyuk's child-like whining and gave in, following Hyuk to their bedroom.
