For everyone else, it was like any ordinary night in New York, but for me, it wasn't. We were ready to pull up the heist and I felt that the night was holding its breath until we finish. I was already in the museum acting like any normal visitor who was admiring the paintings. Eric was making sure that all of the cameras and alarms were off and I was waiting for his signal that would mean everything was clear for me to go in. Eric was a computer genius, he has the skills of someone working for the Pentagon or the CIA, but he liked to use them in a more illegal way.
After a short time, Eric made one of the alarms in a far room go on, it was the 'Everything is clear signal'. Most of the guards hurried to that room to check if there were any intruders, also most of the visitors were busy wondering about what was happening in that room. I made sure that nobody was looking at me or would notice my abrupt absence before making my way to the nearest elevator. I clicked on the third floor's button. I noticed that there was a security camera in the elevator, I smirked when I saw that the recording red light was replaced with dull black which meant it was off. Eric never failed me.
I had a backpack with me which contained everything I needed, I took out one of my black gloves and put it on, then I waited for the elevator to reach my floor. The elevator stopped and the door opened, I checked that there was nobody around before taking a deep breath, then I stepped outside of the elevator.
I remembered the blueprints in my head and I started walking according to them. After a short time of walking through long corridors, I made it to the room which had the painting inside. Of course, it was locked and demanded an access, I got out the keycard that I had stolen earlier from the museum's manager and swiped it. My smile grew when it made a ding sound followed by a green light that said 'access granted'.
They should really get a security upgrade, or not...
I was surprised by another metal door that was similar to safes. Eric warned me that there might be something like that so I was prepared for the worst.
Anyway, this should be fun, it was show time.
I put my ear to the left of the dial and started listening. After a few moments, I figured out that the combination contained six codes that I had to crack. I started spinning the dial clockwise and counter-clockwise multiple times. Shortly, the dial switched for the first time, which meant I had cracked the first code.
One down, five to go.
It took me about ten minutes to finally crack the other five codes. After that, I was welcomed by the satisfying ding sound of the safe's door opening. I opened the door and stepped into the room, it was a large room that held a lot of Van Gogh's incredible artwork. I stood there in awe for a few moments impressed by the amazing artworks in front of me. I shook my head to remind myself that I had to concentrate, I came here for one goal.
I started checking the paintings by my eye until I found my target, the painting was in its frame and getting the painting out of the frame was a really hard thing to do. It needed an expert hand or the painting would be torn and ruined. Luckily, I was an expert.
I took the painting off the wall, then I started getting it out of the frame cautiously, it took me a while to finally get the whole painting out of the frame without any scratches. I carefully rolled it and put it in a cylindrical container that was bent in my backpack.
Everything went smoothly till now, I hope this night hasn't got any unexpected surprises for me.
I made sure that I left nothing behind before closing the room with the combination codes that I had cracked. It was like I was never there, they won't know what had hit him until they discover that they have a missing painting. I went back to the elevator and clicked the last floor's button this time. I have to get away from the roof as, of course, I couldn't get out of the main gate with a large cylindrical bag on my shoulders.
I made it to the museum's roof and started setting my way down. I had a rope in my backpack so I started knitting it and making sure that it was strong enough to hold me. I was about to grab the rope and make my way down when I heard a voice that made me froze and stop in my tracks.
"FBI, freeze." A deep voice yelled at me.
Fuck!!
What was the freaking FBI doing here?!
It was really dark and Eric made sure that all of the lights on the roof were off so no one would notice me from other buildings, but I had a couple of night goggles with me to help me climb down easily and safely, my hoodie was also on. So luckily, the FBI agent couldn't see my face, but I could see him clearly. He was tall and well built, he had jet black hair and ocean deep blue eyes. He was so good damn looking.
Oh god, I can't believe I just said that. Seriously, I have to work on my priorities.
I cleared my throat, "Oh hello there, agent." I took the advantage that he couldn't see my face.
"Stop, there's nowhere for you to go," The handsome agent said firmly, pointing his gun at my direction.
"Well, I happen to disagree with you," I smirked before grabbing the rope. "I would love to stay and chat but as you see I'm in a hurry."
I didn't wait for his response and climbed down quickly and prayed that he wouldn't shoot at me. He shouted some things that I couldn't recognize, but I'm sure most of them were curses.
Once I reached the ground, Eric was already waiting for me in the car. I rushed to it and once I was in I shouted at him, "GO!"
Eric didn't wait to understand what was going on and rushed with horrific speed.
