Stiles and Lydia have had this understanding of each other for a while. Stiles has always had a crush on Lydia and knows that she isn't just the pretty popular girl in school. She is secretly smart but only stiles really noticed.
When it was her birthday he got her this HUGE gift.

But anyway in the end of the show they end up together anyway so yeah. But they are still meant for each other.
By the way, they have A LOT of cute moments. There is too many to explain though.
