It was a short walk to the office. I stuck closely to Raja and Zahvii's side while Luke walked up ahead of us. Our pack was lead by none other than my mother.
"Hello Ms. Bouhadana, what may I assist you with today?" Ms. Peggy, the front desk lady, asked in her sugary southern accent. She was truly a sweetheart; always doing me favours and having my back whenever I got in any mix up.
"Peggy, how many times have I told you to call me Lillah?", Ms. Peggy blushed scarlet as she muttered an apology.
"On another note, I'm here to finish the transcript transfer for Mr. Luke Haveremore over here". Her eyes jumped straight to Luke , since she knew Zahvii's, Raja, and me. She let a genuine smile take over her face. "Well that will be no problem. Let me just pull up his file....." .
"Ahh here it is", she smiled at Luke, then my Maa. "Is he signed up and ready to go for everything?" My Maa asked.
"Of course! With a transcript like that he easily got all of the requested classes. By the way Aer, honey, I suggest that you and Zahvii's show Luke to all of his classes seeing as they are all the same as yours." Ms. Peggy said with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes.
"Wait, all as in ALL of them, as in every class of everyday?" I squeaked.
There goes my plans to avoid him..... forever. Zahvii face held more of a shocked, yet admiring look to it. Raja's face was so blank and spacey you would think she was on a mission to Mars.
Luke let out a low chuckle, "Sorry love, but you would think you wouldn't want to see me. Well either that or you just don't think I'm too bright". His voice was so light, but deep and slightly accented on some words. It made my ears feel like they were listening to a sweet symphony.
"W-W-Well i-it's not that it's just......" I sputtered.
"Oh so you do want to see me." He said openly smiling at me.
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. I guarantee were a visible shade of red. Zahvii stood beside me chuckling. I just glared at him when my mom suddenly jumped in.
"Fantastic! You will all help Duckie here on his first day. Show him around and introduce him to the coach will yah. Duckie over here is a serious sports addict," she laughed to herself at that one. "I also expect you all to be hospitable him, otherwise,.... well you know the consequences." She evilly grinned.
For a tiny middle-aged woman, she was surprisingly evil. To be honest, I really don't know where she fits it.
"Yes Ma'am" we chorused. "Good. I'm glad we have an understanding." Then she spun around to continue talking with Ms. Peggy about some forms. We all stood there looking at each other. The awkwardness was enough to choke on.
"So......... Duckie huh?" Zahvii said breaking the silence.I giggled causing Raja to as well. When his face turned a bright red we all burst out laughing."Would you like to tell us how that happened? Mama B. Can be very vicious sometimes. Don't let her size fool you." Raja joked.
I was genuinely curious. Honestly though, who gives a 16 year old the name Duckie as a nickname? Luke wrinkled up his nose in an adorable manner and scratched the back of his neck.
"The story is actually really embarrassing. I'd rather not share." He said.
Zahvii walked up to him, threw his arm over his shoulder, and smiled his usual heartthrob smile."Since we are all going to be the best of friends for the next few years, I don't see why you can't share a nice story with us?".I pretended to scoff at him, "What happened to being thunder buddies for life?" and pounted a bit. Zahvii just shook his head and said, "We will be best friend until infinity stops, but I can't make those promises to the new one unless he shares some info".Of course Zahvii is trying to pressure the kid. 'No' will never be the finally answer for him. He just about always gets his way, and judging from the look of discomfort on Luke's face, I have a feeling he is going to get it again.
"Fine" he sighed.
Raja let out an excited giggle and leaned closer to listen. Not wanting to miss comedy gold, I leaned in too.
" Well, since I woke up this morning and I was a little.... tense in the lower region," he paused and looked at me. I just coughed trying to forget the 'display' I woke up to this morning. "I figured that I should probably take a long cold shower. Since your bathroom is across the hall, and you have to pass the living room, I tried my hardest to make it there without your mom seeing me." Zahvii was the one coughing this time, but to hide his laughter. Raja and I just nodded in amusement because I could see where this was going very quickly.
"Continue" I pushed.
Luke just sighed and shook his head, " Because the universe LIKES fucking me over, of course Ms. Bouhadana was sitting in the living room watch the tele." "I think we stared at each other for a bit before I actually decided to speak words, but she beat me to it when she asked me why I was waddling through her home, half naked at that, like a duck. Basically all I could do was 'adjust' myself and tell her I was on my way to the washroom. They she randomly let out a loud laugh and said it was hilarious that I was walking like a duck and then I was going to go sit in water like a duck....so I she's been calling me Duckie ever since".
"Your man card just flew out the window." Zahvii chuckled in amusement.Raja clutched her sides as she laughed and I once again couldn't see through the tears. Seriously though, any set of circumstances would have been better.
Luke just ran a hand through his perfect blonde hair and made this kind of shy smile that made my heart stutter in reaction to his gorgeousness. He looked over at me as I was still laughing and Luke released a pantie dropping smile.
"Ehem" we heard from behind us. I glanced over at Ms. Peggy who had a sweet smile on her face.
"I think that ya'll should start making your way to class". Maa just nodded her head in agreement. I looked at the clock right above the office door. 9:37. Well, shit, we are 37 minutes late to class.
Zahvii and Raja looked at the clock and they did that weird twin thing where their eyes bugged out of their heads at the same time. As if Ms. Peggy sensed our panicked, (or probably saw it) she pulled out 4 late slips and an extra sheet which she handed to Luke. With her dimples on full display and her southern twang on full she said, "Well hurry on now before time runs away from ya".
That got us scurrying out the door with mumbled partings to my Maa.
