A week after the accident, everything went back to normal. But the cast on Seb's hand reminded me of it everyday. Who was behind it? Why would they want to kill me? Many questions swirled in my mind.
Everyone went berserk after that incident, including Arjun. It was chaotic, each shouting their own thoughts out. It took a moment for everyone to come back to their sane selves. My friends suggested that I should go to the police for protection. But I declined it. It would have become clear to the person behind this that we are aware of him. Only if he is unknown to that, we will be able to catch him.
Sebastian protested that it will put me in jeopardy. Surprisingly, Arjun took my side. But my friends budged only after I promised them that one of them could always be with me. From that day on, they tooks shifts to protect me. Atleast, that is what they would like to call it. Though, I know that all this is unnecessary, I am overwhelmed with their love and care. It's been long since I have experienced such unconditional love. But today, even their love cannot save me from the pain. Three years back, on this day, everything ended for me. My life became pitch dark as my only light was snatched from me.
I am dressed in a white cropped top and a pair of denim shorts. I threw my hair into a messy bun and headed down later than the usual breakfast time so that I don't have to talk to them before they leave. But I guess, luck is not in my favour today. Four of them were sitting around the kitchen island having a heated discussion. I don't want to eavesdrop but that is the only option I have now.
"It will be better if we don't bring it up. We shouldn't make it more hard for her than it already is.", Veronica mumbled.
"But that will only internalise her pain. She should talk about it to someone.", Rishi spoke out like a typical doctor.
In midst of discussion no one noticed Amaya sitting glumly, without uttering a word.
"What if we all go somewhere? It will divert her mind.", Seb suggested. I don't know if I should be scared or happy for having them as my friends.
"That's enough guys. I am going to be fine.", I muttered, strolling in. They all gave me concerned looks. Amaya got up and hugged me tight.
"He is in a better place now. Don't be sad.", she whispered. I don't know if it's to assure me or herself. I nodded my head at that.
"I know. I will be fine. I will be fine.", I chanted to myself. "I need a favour though. I need to go to the orphanage. Alone.", I said gauging their expressions. They were silent for a moment. Just a moment.
"No way. It's too dangerous.", Seb said his voice raising.
"I agree. Atleast one of us should go with you.", Rishi said.
I have grown to like him a lot. He is the best person Amaya could have found. I can say that he will fight till his last breath for her. So not very surprisingly, we have become really close.
"Please. Just for today.", I sighed.
"Fine. Let her go.", Amaya relented after a while. "But promise me that you will be careful."
I nodded gratefully."Let me check the car.", Rishi sulked.
"Okay."
After he gave me the go signal, I left for the orphanage. I went into Mrs. Steves' cabin to wish her.
"Sorry, I didn't know that you had company.", I said closing the door but stopped mid-way.
"Sameera, what a surprise. Even you come here?", Arjun asked with fake excitement.
Surprise my foot.
"Yea."
Though I know that there is something suspicious about this person, I have become fond of him. Behind that cocky and arrogant man, I felt, there is a sensitive person hidden. During the past week, his eyes were always looking for possible threats. He dropped me home whenever I didn't have a ride. We have become good friends and I decided to restrict our relationship to just that friendship.
Mrs. Steves came to me and took me in an embrace.
"I was expecting you. How are you today?", she asked with concerned eyes. I pursed my lips and nodded at her not able to trust my speaking power in this moment.
"I will be with the children.", I said and left.
I went to the kids and started playing with them. These kids give me the peace of mind which I cannot find anywhere else. They have such pure and innocent hearts. Dhruv was like them. That was why he bonded with them to such an extent. He was so sweet, always keeping others happiness ahead of his. Me being the devil, always used to shout at people who made even a small mistake. But he was the one who went to them and apologised on my behalf. He never hurt anyone. Then why was God so unfair to him?
My thoughts broke with a girl's wail. I ran to her and took her into my arms, settling on the floor.
"What happened baby? Why are you crying?", I cooed at her.
"That guy said that I don't have a mom or a dad, they died in an accident. But I want to go to my parents.", she said crying. My heart suddenly became heavy. I cuddled her.
"Oww baby. See, God is very good. He knew that you will be upset with your parents. That is why he gave you even bigger family.", I said gesturing around the room.
"But they are not my family. In fact they are not my friends only.", she pouted.
"Then make friends. Who knows, they might become your family some day.", I whispered in her ears. She giggled and ran towards them. I kept staring at her with a sad smile.
I felt someone's eyes on me. I turned around to look at him. He was leaning on the door frame and staring at me with a sad look on his face. We kept looking at each other for a while.
"You are right", he whispered.
"Huh?"
"You are right. The word beautiful doesn't do justice to you. You are much more than that.", he smiled. "Much more beautiful and sexy from inside."
