I opened my eyes to a white ceiling, a silent room and a croaky throat. As I tried to move, a sharp pain shot up my arm. I hissed in pain. I gave myself a once over. I have a bandage on my head and a huge cast on my leg. I definitely broke it. Ugh. Now I wont be able to walk for a while. I was hooked up to an IV drip and beside my bed was Arjun, sleeping peacefully on a chair. He had a serene smile on his face. The way in which he deals with everything with a smile on his face reminds me of Dhruv. He was always full of life. I suddenly remembered the accident. The look on his face will always haunt me. He looked as if it was him who was standing in front of the car. Of course there is the 'Mira' thing too.
I slowly moved my hand to touch his hand which was lying on the bed. He woke up startled and completely disoriented. He looked around and then his eyes landed on me. He breathed out in relief. Until then I hadn't noticed the bags under his eyes. He looks tired and tensed.
"You are up", he gave a breathtaking smile.
"It appears so.", I croaked giving a smile of my own which soon turned into a grimace because of the pain.
"Don't stress. I will call the doctor. Your friends are waiting outside.", he whispered and left.
My friends rushed inside looking relieved. I can clearly see the restlessness and fear in their eyes. Veronica took me into her arms gently.
"You scared us.", she mumbled. "I thought we were going to lose you."
"Not so easy to get rid of me.", I said wiping her tears.
Seb and Rishi hugged me too. But Amaya stood at the door looking at the ground. I can understand what she is going through. Others noticed the tension and slowly slipped out of the room giving us some time alone. I beckoned her over. She came and settled on the bed beside me. I took her hands into mine to reassure her.
"I am fine Amaya. Calm down.", I said looking into her eyes.
"You don't know how much of a relief it is. But I am scared for your future. Who is doing this Sameera? Why would anyone want to kill you?", she said with an intelligible fear.
"Anything about the driver of the car?", I asked.
"No. Rishi and Seb tried to catch him. But he escaped somehow. Arjun predicts a big network of people behind this. He said that we should be more careful from now on." I looked away listening to his name. But she caught the look.
"Listen, I don't know what you both have. But I feel it is something really strong Sameera. You should have seen him when you were lying on that road with blood all over. He panicked. He brought you to the hospital and didn't move from your side even for a second. He feels strongly for you. ", she said looking straight at me."I am afraid.", I said in a small voice.
"Why?", she asked in confusion.
"I don't know Amaya. Everything is so messed up. I like him. More than I should maybe. There is something that pulls us together. But at the same time there is something that pulls us apart too. I don't know if it is Dhruv or the mystery behind Arjun."
"What mystery?"
"I didn't find anything on him Amaya. Nothing about his past. Isn't it a little weird that he knows so much about us and we know nothing about him?" I paused. "He is definitely hiding something Amaya. He is not what he pretends to be and I am scared that I won't be happy with what am going to find.", I whispered.
"You are just over thinking because of all that you went through. He is the best person for you. I can bet my life on it."
I didn't say anything as the person in question entered the room with the doctor behind him.
"How are you feeling today Ms. Verma?", the doctor asked smiling. Why are doctors always cheerful?
"Good. Except for a lot of pain.", I said rolling my eyes sarcastically. Amaya narrowed her eyes at me. The doctor and Arjun laughed.
"The pain will go eventually. But I am more worried about your head. Do you remember anything from the day of the accident?", he asked.
"From the day of the accident? How many days has it been?", I asked looking at him. They exchanged quick looks.
"Ms. Verma, you were in pretty bad shape when you were brought here. Multiple wounds. A lot of blood loss. We had to put you in an induced coma.", he said gravely.
"How many days?", I asked in a dead tone.
"Two weeks.", Arjun said without looking at me. I kept staring at him in shock.
"Wow. That's a long time to stay sleeping.", I said clearing my throat. No one smiled.
"Though you are fine now, you have to look out for dizziness and headaches. You will be up and running in two months.", the doctor said and left nodding at us.
"I will be outside.", Amaya whispered and left.
I looked at Arjun. He stood beside my bed with a concerned expression.
"What? You thought I will die without going on a date with you?", I asked with a playful smirk. He laughed and shook his head in disbelief.
"Not even for a second. I knew that you will fight and come back to us.", he said affectionately. I smiled back at him. "But yeah. You still have to come out on a date with me. I don't think you would want to go on our first date with a cast. So get well soon.",he smirked. I just rolled my eyes. After that we just talked for hours. It felt like two friends meeting after a long time. But I had to ruin it.
"Why did you call me Mira?", I asked out of nowhere. His face paled.
"Nothing behind it. I don't know why I called you that. Must be an 'in the moment thing' Sameera."
For some reason it hurt. I loved it when he called me Mira. I don't know why, but I never allowed anyone to call me that. It was always Dhruv's right. But today I feel like hearing it from Arjun's mouth.
"Would you freak out if I ask you to call me Mira?", I asked peeking up at him. He froze but slowly shook his head.
"I would love to.", he smiled. I just nodded. The door opened.
"Hey, you have a post.", Rishi said coming in. I frowned taking it. Who will send me a post? Rishi left saying that he needs to get back to work.
I opened the package to find a file inside. I opened the file to see confidential written in bold letters and instantly knew who sent it. But I fear what's inside. I fear that my doubts are going to be confirmed.
"What's the matter? You are shaking.", Arjun scrunched his eyebrows. I shook my head and turned the page. The first line was enough to stop my heart beat.
You were right. It wasn't an accident. It was a planned murder.
