"What do you mean? How can that be possible Rishi?", I shouted with exasperation.
"I don't know. But he was the one who brought her to the hospital. I met him.", he said with scrunched eyebrows. "Only he can tell us the truth", he added looking at Arjun expectantly.
The person in question looked reluctant to talk. But he opened his mouth after a moment of thought.
"Yes, I saved Amaya and took her to the hospital.", he sighed.
"Then how do you explain the scar which you have on your bicep? I am sure it is not a childhood scar.", I said in a stern voice.
"She was not in proper consciousness. After whatever she went through, she would have stabbed anyone who went close to her. She didn't know I was there to save her.", he said recalling that fateful day.
"But how did you find her? And why did you disappear later.", Rishi asked.
"I was around for a site inspection when I heard screams and gunshots. I went and saw her in a helpless state. I had to save her. And I disappeared for obvious reasons. It was a molestation case. Being one of the top businessmen, I cannot afford to be a part of that case. ", he concluded looking away.
" Thank you. ", a grateful Amaya whispered from the doorstep with tears in her eyes.
" Amaya, what are you doing here? ", Rishi asked hugging her.
" I got a flash from that day. I saw a person's panicked eyes. It wasn't hard to recognise the person.", she whispered and looked at Arjun.
She walked towards him slowly and hugged him like her life depended on it. It would be a understatement to say that Arjun was shocked. He stood still for a minute or two and only then hugged her back, patting her hair. Amaya stepped back wiping her tears. She smiled.
"You are coming to our house for tonight's dinner.", she beamed at him. "What? It is the least I can do for the person who saved me.", she said looking at our faces.
"Are you sure?", Arjun asked hesitantly. Amaya nodded.
"Okay then, 9 o'clock. Our place.", she said and left with Rishi. We both stood in an uncomfortable silence. I stared at the ground not able to look into his eyes. After all, it was me who came up with this stupid theory. Biggest face-palm moment.
"I am sorry", I whispered.
"For what?", he frowned.
"For doubting you. I shouldn't have done that."
"Sameera, I would have been surprised if you didn't doubt me.", he laughed. "I knew you would come up with this theory the day you saw the scar. I was just waiting."
"How?", I asked, surprised.
"It's just typical of you.", he smirked
"You don't know me.", I snapped.
"Oh, I know you more than you would want anyone to know."
"Anyways, I am sorry and thank you for saving Amaya.", I muttered and turned to leave.
"You will be forgiven only on one condition.", he said.
"And what is that?", I asked sarcastically.
"Go on a date with me.", he smiled.
"Excuse me? Why would I do that?", I scowled.
"I just know that you will.", he smirked and left.
Is this person losing it? Why would I ever go on a date with him? He is just delusional. I sighed and left the office. On my way home, I saw a black dodge 2-3 cars behind mine. It has been following me throughout the week. That person is stupid to think that I wouldn't have noticed.
