After a few weeks, the Benbow inn was finished and it was glorious. It had multiple floors with over forty rooms, and a massive kitchen for Sarah. It was fully furnished and only had a few finishing touches that needed completing before opening day. With things as progressed at they were, Sarah decided it was time to see if Claire was ready to do some baby shopping!
Claire and Sarah arrived at a cute little cottage with a sign that read "Baby's Treasures".
"How ironic." The expectant mother chuckled as she read the store name.
As they walked in, Claire quickly became overwhelmed by the massive amount of options. There was so much baby stuff, she didn't even know where to begin.
"Uh...mom..."
Sarah laughed as she placed a hand on her distressed daughter's shoulder.
"I remember feeling like that once. But, out of everything that comes with having a baby, this is not what should stress you out. This is the fun part!" She beamed as she encouraged her daughter.
"Yeah, you're right." Her daughter smiled as she tried to relax.
The pair was approached by a suave-looking man in a suit. "Good afternoon ladies! How can I help you today?"
Being the extrovert that she is, Sarah stepped right up. "My daughter is expecting, and we heard this is the place to go!"
The gentleman stepped forward with a gleam of pride in his eyes. "Well, you heard right! I am Kazuki Akagi, the owner of this fine establishment, not to mention, the only merchant in all of Montressor that sells human baby clothes."
Claire looked around and noticed all of the baby clothes for frog and octopus people. They either had multiple armholes or a huge hole for the head, and half of them were made of plastic or rubber to help prevent stains until the babies could learn to control their natural secretions. It never even occurred to her that human clothes could be difficult to find...but then again, humans, in general, were hard to come by all throughout the etherium.
She was brought out of her thoughts by Mr, Kazuki.
"We have products in every price range, so what's the budget?"
Sarah started to speak. "We have a-"
"-MODERATE amount. I'm well off, but not made of money." Her daughter interrupted.
"Well, follow me." Akagi took off towards a specific section of the store, and the two women slowly followed.
"What on earth was that about? You are arguably the wealthiest person in this solar system!" Her mom questioned, clearly confused.
"Yeah, I know. But I don't need him trying to sell the entire store to me. And baby Silver doesn't need anything SUPER fancy. Just good quality basics. Besides...it still feels wrong buying things for our baby...without Silver."
Claire couldn't help the tears that pricked at her eyes, and she felt her knees wobble as she took a shaky breath.
"Oh, Claire!" Sarah exclaimed as she rushed in to comfort her distraught daughter.
"Sorry...I'm fine Mom. It's just these stupid.. *sniff*... pregnancy hormones."
"I know it's hard right now sweetheart, but things will get better. You said he's gonna come back, so just hold onto that. Remember, we're only getting a few things. You'll still get to do some shopping with Silver."
Claire wiped the tears from her face and nodded her head. "You're right. I just need to try and relax."
Once she composed herself, the two walked to where Mr. Akagi was patiently awaiting their arrival.
