I woke up with a start. My blanket had been yanked off me and I looked down to see my brown Labrador grinning at me with my pink blanket between his teeth.
He had that look that said "you've been sleeping for too long......get up and feed me"
I yanked it out of his mouth and gave him a pat on the head....i stretched and rubbed my eyes then glanced at the Mickey Mouse clock on the bedside table and saw that it was 9:00am already which was weird cos I usually wake up hours earlier..i was wondering why I overslept when I heard my mum yell from downstairs
"Erika come down for breakfast" she shouted
"Just a sec" I yelled back
So that's what was so different about this morning, I'm usually woken up by the voices of my parents arguing about one thing or the other and their fights were usually accompanied by my mum throwing things and doors slamming and other nasty stuff......I was so used to all that by now and it was normal to me...
They had not always been this way..They were high school sweethearts and they got married right after medical school. They were the perfect couple and we're envied by lots of people. My dad worked in the biggest hospital in town while my mum was a gynaecologist and was in practice with five other doctors at a private clinic and they used to be so happy together till I came along and ruined everything.
I wasn't planned and so i was an inconvenience to them and they were never really interested in me...just their jobs...I grew up spending more time with nannies and babysitters than my own parents.
