Falling apart

Third person’s POV

Bruce was sitting on Peter’s bed, looking at Catherine. He was still dumbfounded. He couldn’t believe his dear friend did this.

He never thought he was this crazy about this woman.

Apparently, he is.

The doctor sensed the door softly opening and looked back to see the little girl nervously watching him.

“Is daddy gonna take a wong time?” she shyly asked

Bruce couldn’t help his smile. That little girl was indeed, beautiful.

“You can come in here, Camilla. Peter must arrive soon”

She slowly walked to the bed and sat next to him.

“Were you talking to mommy?”

He looked at her “For how long have you known your mommy?”

She looked at him confused “I always knew mommy” she smiled

Bruce looked at her. This child grew seeing her mother stuck in a bed, lifeless. And for her, it was such a normal thing. This girl never met anyone besides Peter. She never spent any time with any other child.

This girl doesn’t have a civil registration. Technically, she doesn’t exist.

Bruce thought about how unethical this entire situation was. But then again, NRO can’t be considered ethical either. This woman gave birth to this beautiful and perfectly healthy child while being in a coma. This beautiful girl would not be here if Peter hadn’t “kidnapped” Catherine.

Bruce, deep down, could not judge his friend for doing this. But it was still hard for him to believe how bizarre all this was.

Bruce didn’t have the chance to continue the conversation with Camilla for much longer because both heard the door of the entrance abruptly closing. Peter had left a good while ago for the interrogation with the inspectors.

Soon, Peter ran inside the room, obviously bothered. His breath was completely uncontrolled and desperation filled his eyes.

“Daddy?!” Camilla was scared. She had never seen him like that.

“T-they…” Peter breathed hard, his voice failing him “They’re… going to take her!” the tears were threatening to fall from his eyes. He quickly went to grab Bruce’s collar “HELP ME!”

Bruce was still in shock with this sudden event “BRUCE!” Peter yelled

“Calm down, Peter! What happened? What did they say?!” Bruce tried to calm him down

“Oh… god…” Peter turned around, his hand rubbing his face.

He was going to lose them.

 Peter’s POV

*flashback*

I nervously moved my feet beneath the table as the two men looked at me, seriously.

“Why did you leave your job so suddenly?”

“I never left my job. I simply started to do it as head of the service, at home. If anything was needed I would come”

“You are one of the best doctors of this hospital. Every person we talked to that knew you and all of your old patients adored you and said that you loved this job and spent endless hours at the hospital. When asked about the reason of your absence, no one knew the answer… and everyone found it weird”
