Chapter One: New Beginnings
I pushed the brown wooden door open making my way towards the lady sitting behind the counter. Her perfectly manicured nails filled up the room with the noise of it connecting to the quite dusty keyboard. When she noticed my presence she clicked her tongue and motioned towards the papers laying flat down on the counter nearby.
She inhaled deeply then spoke with the annoyance evident in her voice. "If your late you need to sign your name, the time and drop your excuse in the basket-"
Clearing my throat, I mastered the most nicest smile I could put on. "Actually ma'am I'm new"
"Name?" She asked letting her attention wander back to the computer. I slung my bag further up my shoulder still trying allowing the smile to stay on my face. "Allyssa. Allyssa West"
She nodded, spinning around in the chair to grab a stack of papers. Her index finger went to her mouth then returned to the papers. She flicked through them then stopped snatching one of the papers from the deck.
Her eyes wandered over it for a few seconds then she flicked her wrist handing it to me. "That's your schedule it gives you the time length of your classes, the room numbers, and your teachers names."
I nodded my head slowly as she treated me as if my learning capacity was slow. "Um, Thanks."
"Do you understand?"
Before I had the chance to respond with a snarky comment a elderly lady in her late 50's responded. "Ms. Rhodes, I'm pretty sure she's not dumb."
The lady Rhodes cheeks flushed a light pink. "Right. My apologizes Ms. Evans." The lady Evans walked to my side and looked at her. "Not to me, to this young lady here."
Ms. Rhodes gulped slightly but smiled and looked at me "My deepest apologies miss" I nodded whilst taking the paper from her hand "No worries, All is forgiven" I replied with sarcasm dripping from my voice.
Ms. Evans clasped her hands together then turned to me "Great. Do you need help finding your class?"
"Um No, I'm perfectly capable of finding my way around things" Which was exactly true, I had been trained to find my way out of the most impossible things. I watched as her eyes stared back into mines, maybe trying to study me but I changed my expression back to my original neutral facial expression.
"None sense, your new. I doubt you know your way to your class, and before you try to say something as the assistant principal I have to make sure all of our students get to class safely."
"Okay then" Turning on my heels I walked out the office into the hallway. When I knew she was next to me I told her "Room E-7"
"Ah yes Mr. Philips, right this way" She turned walking away and I followed memorizing my way there. After a few turns she stopped and looked at me "Don't mind Ms.Rhodes, she's young and still thinks she's the queen bee of this school, but here we are E-7"
