Planning

Shelby, Heather, and Prezi laid low on the tree they had come to for safety just a few hours ago. The moon was at its peak in the dark evening sky and had stars scattered all over. They had caught their breath and Heather motioned for them each to flip over onto their stomachs in order to see each other and make a game plan.

"I think we're safe here, at least for now. This is what I think we need to do. All of us are exhausted and need sleep so how about we each take an hour and watch until dawn. If anything goes wrong, or looks like its going wrong, whoever is awake needs to get the others up. When the sunrise does come around, if you're watching then, it's your job to wake up the others then too." Prezi said at barely a whisper.

"I really don't know, it's a huge-" Shelby was cut off with a quiet yawn of her own. "Okay, but I'm not taking first watch, g'night." She said under her breath. Heather offered and Prezi quietly thanked her.

Heather sat up just enough that she could see below without being seen. She made a strategy of throwing branches away to lure monsters that came by to the stick. Throughout the hour of tossing branches and reading placements of the moon to see what time it was, the thought of Kyle's safety was on her mind. Heather still had no idea wether they made it back from the mine or wether they got back home and got killed by the deadly flames that had taken their home, had possibly her friends and boyfriend. An hour later she woke Shelby up and explained the branch-tossing strategy to her. Eventually, Heather got her rest too.

Shelby had known it would be a long, watchful hour full of throwing branches from the tree to get monsters to go figure out if there would be any victims to kill in their time at night. But like Heather, the people who had rescued her from death were in Shelby's thoughts. For some odd reason, it was mostly Tyler she was thinking about. Even though she's spent more time with Heather and Prezi, her attention was turned to him. Probably because she knows how their doing, she though. Shelby turned behind her just to make sure.

She had known how to read the placements of the moon to find the time and could tell when her hour of watch was coming to a close. Shelby was about to awake Prezi when from behind her she heard a faint crackling noise. She turned to see in the distance light was coming from the trees. She couldn't think of what it was but just to be sure, she woke up the the others.

"Shelby, wha- is it my turn now?" Prezi whispered sleepily.

"Yeah but guys, look over there." Shelby pointed in the direction of the mysterious light that had now gotten closer.

Heather and Prezi had to take a moment for their eyes to adjust but it didn't take Prezi long to find out what it was. "Shelby, that fire! Oh my Notch, we must have started that!"

Heather and Shelby's jaws fell. They each squinted their eyes just enough to be able to make out the smoke and flame that was burning the trees.

"I think we'll be safe from the fire until the morning but we won't be as lucky with the smoke." Heather tore her eyes away from the light emitting from the flames to look at the others. "That will get here fast, I can't think of anything that would put that out besides rain. We can't go back down before morning too."

Everyone's face feel as they though they were just given the choice of choking to death or being killed by the monsters just beneath the trees. Anything would have helped at this point and help is exactly what they didn't have. Shelby, Heather, and Prezi just had themselves and each other. But Shelby was finally able to think of what they could do with just that. She stood up and tugged on the others arms to get them up as well.

"Shelby what are you doing? Get down!" Prezi whispered worried for their safety. Heather tugged back to get her to lower some.

"We need to run away from this, we can go on the trees and try to out run it. I think that's all we can do at this point." Shelby said not bothering to be quiet. "The monsters are gonna know we're here when we're jumping from tree to tree." She added the last part when she saw Heather put her index finger to her lips signalling for her to lower her voice. Prezi smiled though and turned to Heather and stood to her feet.

"That's actually a great idea, and our only idea. We need to, it's the best we've got." Prezi said following suit and speaking at a normal volume.

Heather realised that this was their opportunity to get away. "Okay if that's the plan, lets get to it!" On that note, they stood up and Shelby took the first jump with the others following.

They jumped, dogged arrows, and kicked a few spiders off of trees by the time late dawn hit. Somehow Prezi chocked out words instructing to stop soon. When their jumping came to a halt, Shelby, Heather, and Prezi looked behind them to look for the fire, but all they could see was the sun just above the horizon.

"We're gonna have to go back at some point." Prezi pointed out while catching her breath.

"We need to find them. What if they were didn't survive the night? What if they didn't make it back from the mine trip? What if the fire caught-"The words poured out of Heathers mouth like trying to get something with an awful taste out. She was quickly interrupted my Prezi though.

"Heather I know you're worried but they were prepared for a mining trip with swords, pics, and food. They better have survived the night and that mine." What she didn't touch on, was the part the fire caught them.

Shelby noted this and dread fled through her in a wave of fear. These people saved her life without a second thought and maybe if she wasn't there, something else would have happened. Thinking of it wouldn't help her, so she stopped. Instead her mind led her to wonder of the empty feeling that rest on the top of her head.

She raised her hands and put them on the top on her red haired-head as if looking for something; in fact, she was. When she found out what, she shrieked in fear.

"Guys, I lost my crown! How did I not know! What am I gonna do?" Shelby shouted frantically, interrupting Heather and Prezi's conversation. That crown was the last thing from her past life and had no idea what she would do without it. They looked at her and noticed it for he first time.

"It must have fallen off while we were running and didn't know." Prezi told her seeing her face with a mix of shock and sadness.

"We probably didn't know when it feel either. It was really dark out." Heather said. "We're sorry. It must have been important." Yeah, you have no idea. Shelby thought. Her eyes began to water when Prezi spoke her magic words that seemed to cure everything.

"Hey, hey, don't cry. I know this is sad, but here, you just have to

forget about it.

Okay. Sixth chapter. I'm really sorry if it's a bit boring, but every book has one like that. I plan on getting back to the schedule of chapters every Sunday and possibly more often if I can. I almost always have two chapters ready but that's because if I can't finish one I have a back up. Sorry if that makes some people mad. I just like sticking to a schedule. If I update on a day that's isn't Sunday, that's because I have three or more chapters ready. Thank you so much if you like the story, or even if you don't.

Love ya:) 10/19/14
