Ellis wouldn't talk. No matter how hard I tried.

"You can sleep on my couch. It's not super comfy, but yknow."

"Thank you." He came in for a hug.

He wasn't going to be able to stay for long. My landlord was strict on visitors. At least he could sort himself out in the safety of my home. Plus, Fly was there.

"I have to go, meeting up with Axel." I had explained the situation to him after dance. The water park, sunset, talking until 2 in the morning, and the abrupt ending to our visit.

He let out a squeal.

"I'm so excited for you." I couldn't help but notice a twinge of sadness in his dark brown eyes.

"Sure you're okay?"

He smirks.

"I'll be okay. Don't worry."

I check the time. 11:53. We had agreed to meet at 12 again. We were meeting at my favourite café, Sophies.

To: Axel

Me: omw now.
Axel: same here.

"Bye" I can't help the nervous smile.

Ellis calls out the door as I leave, "Love you."

He's sitting in my favourite booth, the one with a display of old soda bottles, flipping through a menu. The owner and I were old friends, so I had requested they sit him there.

Deep breath.

I slide into the bench opposite him.

"Axel."

"Ah, Maddox! I thought you were gonna leave me hanging for a bit."

"Who in their right mind would leave you hanging?"

He can't help the smile that spreads to his lips. Crazy to think I might have the same affect on him, that he has on me.

Axel orders a root beer float with fries. Classic.

I get a banana split with some Red Rose tea.

Conversations flow as easily as a stream, no small talk needed. He's full of surprises, this one.

Our laughter fills the quiet shop.

"What did the apple say to the mushroom?"

Axel shoots me a questioning glare, taking a sip of his float.

"What?"

"You're a fun guy."

Root beer streams out of his nose. I can't breath I'm laughing so hard. Tears are falling down his cheeks.

"That wasn't even good, it was horrible." He says after we've recollected.

"Your reaction was the funny part." I wink.

"I only laughed cause of your face it's just so--" he motions to my face "funny."

"Oohoho! You're one to talk!" I throw a blueberry at him.

"Now you're just being plain rude." A mock frown has formed on his lips.

We sit, and laugh in the booth for 2 hours. I've never felt so much connection with a person before.

I look down at the time, sighing

"I have to go home soon, taking care of a friend."

"How about a short walk on the beach?"
