As soon as Robert left that day, her life was filled with sadness. Her mother died, and her father spent every day at work, in the uptown neighbourhood of Kalidow. The houseworkers looked after Rose, and her younger sister Constance. Her twin brother, Michael, was in college, and her older sister, June, was married to the deputy-prime-minster, Terry. Rose was awfully lonely, as the servants thought she was "stuck-up and posh" and Constance was a toddler who annoyed her. She missed her mother, and her father (however unresponsive he was). She wandered into the woods outside her house almost every day, and she made her own ink and paper (because her father didn't condone learning, or writing). She wrote to her father, but he never responded.
