My alarm goes off alerting me to wake up. I contemplate throwing it across the room but decide against it and just turn off the alarm. One day. I get up and go over to where I set out my clothes. I see that the red dress is back out with an envelope. I pick up the envelope and open it. inside was another note.
Enjoy
Inside was a ticket to the panic at the disco concert tonight. I stare in amazement. What does he have planned? I pick up my phone and text the unknown number.
me: A concert?unknown: Why not?
me: im too busy to go to a concert, besides I wouldn't know what to do there.
unknown: why not?
I argue with myself if I should tell him the truth.
me: iv never been to a concert.
unknown: well we must fix that, will you let me escort you?
I hold my breath. Is he really going to reveal himself just like that? Is it even safe? I mean like I don't know him.
me: can I trust you?
It takes him a moment to text back.
unknown: yes, I promise you will go home safe and sound.
me: ok fine I will go if I can get my dad to agree.
Im pretty sure I signed my death certificate, but im also pretty sure you are only offered a free ticket to your favorite performers once in your life. So if I am to die I can at least die to good music.
unknown: great! I will pick you up at 8:00
me: that's only if my father agrees.
unknown: I have a feeling he will
I roll my eyes at this guys cockiness. I get dressed in the clothes that I originally picked out and head downstairs very conscious that my father is home. I enter the living room startled that my father wasn't there. I hear some clattering from the kitchen. I creep in the kitchen trying to see whats going on. My father is by the stove and appears to be cooking.
Cooking?
"Papa?" I ask ready to run.
He turns around with a smile.
"Good morning Elvira! Have a seat at the table," he said motioning towards out hardly used dining table.
I wearily walk towards the table never taking my eyes off of him. He plates us some eggs and bacon. He approaches the table with our breakfast. I flinch when he sets my plate down. he holds his breath but after another moment he takes his seat.
"Look, Evy, I know the past few years I haven't been myself, and im sorry for that. I would like to thank you for putting up with me and not leaving me like your mother, not that it was her fault. I just felt so responsible for what happened to her and I've just hated myself after the accident and i-i took it out on you. Im sorry." he rambles looking me in the eyes.
I take a moment to prosses what he just said.
"I-its ok Papa we dealt with it in our own way, neither were healthy," I stated.
"No it's not ok I made you take care of me and yourself, a good parent shouldn't do that. To make it up to you, im going sobber," he says looking me dead in the eye.
A smile spreads across my face.
"Really?" I ask making sure that he wasn't just saying this.
