(Enter GREGG looking around. He sneezes then continues looking. He may sneeze at random times as well and mention the fact that he has allergies, relatable.)
GREGG: Where are they? Did they forget again like they always do? Maybe I should text them...
(GREGG pulls his phone out of his pocket and starts walking back and forth. Enter MAE. GREGG bumps into MAE and falls down. He looks up at MAE)
GREGG: Oh my gosh... Mae!
MAE: Hey Gregg.
GREGG: (Jumps up) What are you doing here? (Waves his arms) You're home!
MAE: Yes, I'm home.
GREGG: My arms are tired...
MAE: Then stop waving them.
GREGG: I can't...
(MAE hugs GREGG making him stop waving his arms and hug her back)
MAE: Yes you can, you just did.
GREGG: (Laughs) What are you doing back here so soon?
MAE: My parents turned out to not be able to pay for my college classes.
GREGG: Oh... I'm sorry.
MAE: It's fine. At least, I get to be back here with you and the rest.
GREGG: Awww!
MAE: Speaking of the rest... Where are they?
GREGG: Probably at home or something...
MAE: Most likely.
(Enter BEA she sighs and sits on a log)
MAE: Bea!
BEA: Mae...
GREGG: Gregory!
BEA: You're back early...
MAE: My parents weren't able to pay for my college.
GREGG: Where's Angus?
BEA: He's on his way. He got tired by the lake and sat down to rest. He should be here soon.
(GREGG looks around for ANGUS who slowly walks in, huffing and puffing)
GREGG: Angus!
ANGUS: (Breathing heavily) Hi Gregg.
GREGG: The whole groups here!
MAE: Yay!
ANGUS: (Breathing heavily) Mae? Wha-
BEA: Her parents aren't able to pay for college anymore...
ANGUS: Oh...
MAE: What about you Gregg? Aren't you going to college?
GREGG: (Laughs Nervously) No? I've been here partying the whole time, without you!
BEA: I thought you were going to college to be a private detective...
ANGUS: Yeah, you were gone for months!
GREGG: (Sighs) Fine... I was but I dropped out...
MAE: I'm so sorry, man.
ANGUS: Yeah. Being a detective is you life's dream!
BEA: Everyone has a life's dream, Angus... Doesn't mean it will come true.
ANGUS: Have a bit of hope, Bea... Dreams will come true if you actually try!
BEA: Hey!
ANGUS: Hay's for horses...
MAE: Ladies, you're both pretty!
ANGUS: Hey!
BEA: Hay's for horses...
GREGG: Guy's calm down... Even though I don't get to be a private detective, I still get to work at the local convenience store.
BEA: Sounds lame.
GREGG: Actually, it's not. It's very cool... I get free slurpies!
MAE: Great, now I'm jealous.
GREGG: You snooze, you loose, Mae.
BEA: Anyways... Why'd you call us here?
GREGG: I didn't call Mae here... She just showed up...
MAE: I was jogging my memories!
ANGUS: Right...
GREGG: CRRRRRIIIIIIIMMMMMMEEEEESSSSS!... Without me? How could you Mae?
MAE: I wasn't committing crimes.... I swear I was jogging my memory!
GREGG: Back on track... I called you here to practice for our band!
MAE: You mean the one we made in high school?
GREGG: Yeah! We're all so busy with our jobs (and college) that we never get to practice anymore!
BEA: So...?
GREGG: So we can do it now!
ANGUS: We don't even have our instruments...
GREGG: Uh... Yeah we do!
(Exit GREGG for a moment then renter him with the instruments)
MAE: How'd you get those up here?
GREGG: Ways... Don't question it!
MAE: Well, even though we have our instruments... I doubt any of us remember how to play... That was years ago!
GREGG: I'm sure we'll do fine... We pick up fast!
ANGUS: Yeah we do!
GREGG: That's the spirit!
BEA: I don't...
MAE: Same.
GREGG: (Groans) You people are so boring!... Except Angus, he's pretty cool.
ANGUS: Thank you!
MAE: I guess we can give it a try...
GREGG: Yes!
BEA: Fine... Which song are we gonna do?
GREGG: Our very first one... Weird Summer!
ANGUS: I love that one!
MAE: I call singing solo!
BEA: Mae... You're forgetting, we all sing solo.
MAE: How again?
GREGG: We each have a verse to sing solo, like always.
MAE: Oh yeah...
ANGUS: Everyone ready?
(Everyone grabs their instruments)
BEA: I guess...
GREGG: One, two, three, four!
(The music starts playing)
GREGG: (Singing) People live in just one way That's what they do all day They find one way And that's how they stay! Hey, have you seen her around? Hey, do you hear that sound?
ALL: (Singing) Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
GREGG: (Singing) I only knew her for a day Then she went away!
ALL: (Singing) Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
BEA: (Singing) Sometimes you can't see someone Until they leave you behind But some people stay for just a day Just to say Now
ALL: (Singing) Hey, have you seen her around? Hey, do you hear that sound?
BEA: (Singing) It's Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
ALL: (Singing) I only knew her for a day Then she went away!
BEA: (Singing) Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
ANGUS: (Singing) Out on Old Harbor Street I saw Summer leave Her family drove away at the end of the day That's why she didn't stay Empty, the house remains!
MAE: (Singing) Neighbor kids say it's because summer was weird that way They say she never slept Till she got up and left Weird it remains
MAE+ANGUS: (Singing) Hey, have you seen her around? Hey, do you hear that sound?
ALL: (Singing) Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
MAE+ANGUS: (Singing) I only knew her for a day Then she went away!
ALL: (Singing) Weird Summer! Weird Summer!
GREGG: Weird Summer!
(The music ends)
MAE: That was... Not bad!
ANGUS: I liked it!
GREGG: That was... Perfect!
BEA: I've seen better...
(Enter Aunt Molly, She runs in to see everyone)
AUNT MOLLY: What's going on here?
GREGG: The police! They've found me, run!
(GREGG runs into AUNT MOLLY so hard that he falls on his bum)
GREGG: (Looking up at AUNT MOLLY) Hi...
MAE: Gregg... That's my Aunt Molly.
GREGG: Hi Mae's aunt...
AUNT MOLLY: What are you kids doing out here so late?
GREGG: (Laughs Nervously) It's not late...
AUNT MOLLY: It's two in the morning!
GREGG: Correction... It's one, fifty-six and nine seconds... Ten seconds... Eleven seconds... Twelve seconds...
MAE: (Whispers in GREGG's ear) Gregg... You're not helping...
AUNT MOLLY: You're out past curfew!... But since you're all friends with my niece I'll let you go. If you go straight home and don't come out till morning.
BEA: Sounds good to me.
(BEA turns to leave but ANGUS stops her)
GREGG: Why are you out here? You need sleep too...
AUNT MOLLY: I... Heard your music echo off the sides of the mountains... That told me you're up here.
GREGG: Well... I guess we should be on our way then...
AUNT MOLLY: Go... Now!
(AUNT MOLLY points to the trail and everyone starts walking down it. Exit ALL)
