(Enter PASTOR KAREN reading a bible. Enter MAE and BEA shortly after)
PASTOR KAREN: (Looking up at MAE) Mae Borowski! Welcome, your mother has told me a lot about you.
MAE: How do you know my mother?
PASTOR KAREN: She started volunteering here shortly after you left for college. (Looks at BEA) Who’s the friend?
BEA: (Holds out her hand) Beatrice Santello… But you can call me Bea…
(PASTOR KAREN stares at BEA’s hand)
PASTOR KAREN: I’m Pastor Karen…
BEA: (Lowering her hand) Pleasure…
PASTOR KAREN: Mmh… So why exactly did you guys come to see me today?
MAE: I heard you’re one of the smartest people around…
PASTOR KAREN: Indeed… With the help I get from The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit, I may know anything and everything…
BEA: We’d like to ask you if you know anything about the recent events involving locals disappearing…
PASTOR KAREN: I’m aware that people are disappearing… But I know nothing about what’s causing it or who’s behind it.
(Enter BRUCE)
BRUCE: Oh sorry… Am I interrupting?
BEA: Who are you?
BRUCE: My name’s Bruce.
PASTOR KAREN: He’s a friend…
MAE: Ooooh, what kind of friend?
PASTOR KAREN: A friend.
BRUCE: Pastor K, have you seen Sadie anywhere?
PASTOR KAREN: No, why?
BRUCE: I can’t find her anywhere.
BEA: Wait… Who’s Sadie?
BRUCE: My little sister. Our parents abandoned us and Pastor K was generous enough to let us make camp behind the church. She’s usually always in the tent when I wake up but today when I woke up she was nowhere to be seen.
MAE: Interesting… (Pulls out a notepad) Tell us more…
(MAE starts taking notes as BRUCE talks)
BRUCE: Well she usually sits next to me and waits for me to wake up.
BEA: How old is she?
BRUCE: Nineteen.
MAE: So she’s smart enough to not wonder off.
PASTOR KAREN: Of course she’s smart enough to not wonder off!
BEA: Thanks for your input K…
PASTOR KAREN: I have to go… I have a session starting soon.
(Exit PASTOR KAREN)
BRUCE: Anyways… Today when I woke up I wasn’t able to find her anywhere. I thought she got cold and went to sit by the fire but when I went to look for her I didn’t see here anywhere. I thought that maybe she went inside for the early bible group session. So I asked if Karen knew where she was but apparently not… Do you think she disappeared?
BEA: Most likely…
MAE: Don’t worry sir, we will find your sister!
(MAE is about to walk off but then turns around again)
MAE: Do you know where I can find information about the disappearing locals?
BRUCE: Try the library.
MAE: Thank you.
(MAE turns to leave again)
BEA: Wrong way, Mae!
MAE: You sure?
BEA: Yes I’m sure.
MAE: Okay.
BEA: Let’s go.
(Exit ALL)
