Chapter Seven

We were taking another cab to Camp Jupiter. To be honest, I was getting pretty sick of cabs. There was so much tension between Logan and Dakota, and I was so uninvolved now, that I almost felt like I wasn't there.

We rode in complete silence. I barely heard anyone breath. Dakota's face was tear-stained, and Logan's mind was clearly somewhere far away from the Bay Area. Probably right back on that beach, where he killed-

I stopped myself, not wanting to cause an internal debate. My mom said that she used to get them too, and you just have to let your mind go blank. That is hardly as easy as it sounds.

Instead of going to a complete blank canvas, I drove my mind away. What was I supposed to say to the Romans? Hey, we really haven't talked in twenty years, but we need a hand. Oh, and please don't kill us! That would just be horrible.

I chuckled at my brain, and Logan gave me a weird look, almost like a 'You're insane, but I'm not going to spoil it... I'll let YOU figure it out' look. I'm sure you know exactly which look I'm talking about. Don't pretend like you don't.

"Where d'ya wamme to drop you 'gain?"

"The Caldecott Tunnel. Please."

"Miss, that ain't no tourist 'ttraction," The cab driver shook his head.

"I'm well aware of that, sir, but thanks for the information." I watched as the cab pulled over thorugh many lanes of traffic.

"This good?" I nodded, handing him his money.

"Thanks," We all hopped out, our bags on our shoulders. I saw a Roman soldier standing by the gate, guarding it. Jeez, these guys were formal.

"Hey, I'm Sophia Jackson, and these are my friends Dakota Draper and Logan Abbott. We sorta really need to get into your Camp." The guy looked at us, and smiled a huge grin. He removed his helmet to reveal a tanned, blue eyed, blonde haired hottie.

I don't think most guys are cute, but this one was way cute. I mean, he was gorgeous.

"Hey. I'm Kyle Austen. Nice to meet you." Kyle was a lot friendlier than I thought Romans would've been.

"Are you, by chance, related to Percy Jackson?" His eyes glimmered in the noon-day sun.

"Yeah. He's my dad."

"Cool! Oh, ah, lemme introduce you to the praetor. Her name's Luna. Uh, I have to take your weapons, though. She's gonna-"

Then I saw her. Luna was drop dead gorgeous. I was starting to wonder if all Romans were gorgeous. The few that I knew were. Luna had this long brown hair that coiled in ringlets by the middle of her back. She had these huge brown eyes that seemed to have seen everything, and that must've known everything too. She was a good bit taller than me, and at least 3 years older.

"She's going to do what? Kyle, you've got to  stop talking about people behind their backs. It's very rude." Kyle looked apologetically at her.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Sophia Jackson, and these are my friends-"

"Sophia Jackson? As in Percy Jackson?"

"...Yes..."

"Well, what is it that you desire? Because if it involves the destruction of Camp Jupiter, I'm sorry, but I can't grant you that."

"No, actually we're on a quest from Camp Half Blood. The Doors of Death are being pushed open again. And as the three most powerful demigods, we're attracting Tartarus." Luna nodded.

"I see. You're much too dangerous for your own good and your need our help to fix it."

"Exactly! So glad you-"

"No." I lost my smile and looked at her.

"Why in Hades not?"

"Because I'm not putting this Camp in jeopardy because you Greeks can't deal with your own power."

"Hey, don't talk to them like that." It was Kyle. "You can't just shut them out. Turn them away. By doing that, you're putting us in jeopardy. They can help with our problem, too. Just saying."

"What problem?" It was the first time I'd heard Dakota speak since the flight.

"You Greeks are so nosy. It's not your business. And Kyle, we do not need their help."

"What? Yes we do!"

"No, we don't. Go to the Senate House, they've been asking for you." Kyle moaned, but followed his command.

"We might be able to help you with your problem, if you help us with ours."

"Please," Luna shook her head, almost laughing, "If you can't handle yourselves, you certainly cannot handle this."

"Just tell us." Logan stepped out from the shadow of me, and Luna glanced at him, stunned.

"Who are you, young man?"

"Logan Abbott, and don't call me that. You sound like my grandma's friends." Luna stifled a laugh, and smiled a devilish smile.

"Fine. Once again, our praetor has gone missing. It hasn't happened since Jason, but now it's happened again. But you'll have no part in his search."

"We could really help you," Dakota stepped forward, clearly getting aggrevated.

"No. I've already given my answer, and that is no. So goodbye, have a nice day." I frowned at Luna as she walked away. She was the most devilish person I'd ever met.
