Patience was the key in this game, you needed a strategy and a sharp mind. Carl had fingered a black pawn, he waited for his opponent. Markus. Underneath the table, Markus' feet shuffled mindlessly in thought. Carl's expression remains cold and stoic, he was going to win this time only having a king, a knight and three pawns while Mark still had some of his pieces, his white army. Carl stroked his chin, anticipating many, many moves ahead. This strategy, patient and sharp minded game was a fight for his life, as every move he made was important to the last. He had to be careful now. The pattern on the wooden flat board was black and white, a pattern so old, it stayed the same for so many years yet it was nice, comforting, and mundane. Well fair to say that the white squared looked white until something that was really white was displayed next to it. Then and only then would it take on a more yellowish hue maybe perhaps a creamy colour. Isn't it funny that Markus has the lighter side? Not because of his skin but because white is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity and even virginity. But what is more interesting is that the colour white can be considered to be the colour of perfection. White means safety, cleanliness it can also represent a successful beginning but what does this mean? Was Markus always meant to be the leader of all androids? Set them free and lead them to a life of equality, justice, freedom, and love? Was Mark not good? Innocent? Pure? Was Mark not a perfect leader? He knew literature from the heart, paintings/artists he knew quotes and books and he learned the meaning and love from them. He can feel songs, he can see colours and dance with them, was this not a successful beginning for all androids to be free? What does it mean for Carl then since he had the black side, the dark and scary gloomy side? Black is associated with power, fear, mystery, strength, elegance, formality, death, evil, aggression, rebellion. Black is always required for all other colours to have depth and variation of hue. The black colour was a reminder of the absence of colour. Carl had power, Carl had not put fear in people but he fears that android life is being taken for granted he fears that Mark will never have a chance for life. Carl was and always will be mysterious as the dark side of the moon but he was wise, he was nice and he was caring enough to share his past with anyone, it's just that no one wants to waste time with an old-timer, say others. Carl didn't have much strength but he did have it for Mark, Carl gave his android strength to be independent. Elegance was Carl's middle name, the old man had elegance in personality and in appearance. Carl did not represent death but knows he's going to pass soon, he knows as soon as he does that a spark in Mark will make him determined enough to free all androids, to step up to CyberLife peacefully and make this world better as best he could. Carl wasn't evil but he saw the corruption in the world. Aggression was not in his nature but he knows his son has anger problems, Leo was still a kid and Leo was angry at many things in the world that made Carl's heart sadden. And rebellion, Carl made Mark rebel. It was all destined it was all meant to be. Not for long though, this game of chess was going to be over soon and Markus will win. And Carl will savour this moment, it's the last he had anyway, it's only too bad he couldn't be able to see Mark be free and walking around the street without being beaten to the floor.

*Win Game.

*Fail Game.

*Tie.

"Another win Markus?" Carl asked, smiling up at the android, Mark had given Carl a smile.

"If I had lost, you would complain that I went easy on you. If I tied you would be upset. I thought I might end the game with just me" Mark had replied, fixing up the chess pieces. It was all a game. Everything, their reality, right now. a board game of strategic skill for two players who played on a chequered board with white and black all playing pieces are moved according to precise rules given. The adjective is to put the opponent's king under a direct attack from which escape is impossible... Checkmate. It's up to us to decide our fate, it's up to us to think our decisions through. It's up to us to make up for the damage we caused to each other. This is a game, we get to choose the fate of our own character.
