1953
The Al Maktoum House that was built in 1896 at the Al Shindhaga area now had a slight difference of the old and new. it was built on a protruding land. which was done strategically so as to keep a look out back in those days. It had spaces that were closed, semi-open and open and there was a variety in their air towers. the walls were thick and were covered with lime so as to avoid the absorption of heat. .it overlooked the Arabian Gulf that segregated Deira and Bur Dubai.
(this was Sheikh Rashid and Sheikha Latifa's bedroom. And the other wall ends where the statue of the lady sits.)
The main house was surrounded by other houses close by. they did keep their people close and Rashid Sr. didn't keep his people away from him. I lived in the guest room that was towards the right of the entrance as it was considered the blessed side and I was their most honorable and respected guest...and I don't even know why. sometime Shamsa would come over to sleep and we would have had a banter and if Rashid Sr. wasn't present at home. Latifa too would join us. its funny that at the beginning we didn't see eye to eye quite literally as they didn't like my flying mouth as they call it and I spoke too openly of my opinion. but they began to notice their children's bond with me and how they were happier than usual. And how Mohammed spoke well and had his little boy anger was at a much calmer level. Latifa was slightly saddened as she hadn't realised how despite keeping family closer she and her husband barely knew what went on in their eldest and their third born's mind. as the two older women began their understanding of Aairah they came to understand she only meant well. and she stressed the mental health of both the boys and other children that studied under her. Latifa and Shamsa were now convinced without Aairah telling them that she wasn't from their time and she wasn't mad. the women bonded over children, shopping, reading, home tips and of course men and aunties... Aairah couldnt believe that women in 1953 and 2011 had the same issues with aloof husbands and interfering annoying aunties. How much they loved gossiping. they got closer to the point where they shared their personal feelings and were astonished that Aairah was single and unmarried and she was 22!
