Christmas was coming and I had made my decision. Erin was across the dormitory, packing her trunk. She was going home for Christmas to help mum and dad and I had decided to stay back with Harry and Ron. Hermione was also going home to visit her parents and Hazel was going home with Charlie. The only people in our friend group staying behind were us. Katie was visiting her cousins in America (Emma, Annie, Maggie) who attended Ilvermony (which Lyra taught Erin about often since the word game).
I came out of Transfiguration, running down the stairs. Ron and Harry were meeting me in the Great Hall to say goodbye Hermione and Erin. The castle was colder these days with cold breezes sweeping through the hallways so we had to be warmly dressed most of the time. Potions was the worst due to the fact it was held in the dungeons and I felt bad for Ron and Harry.
I nearly ran into Hagrid in the entry hall due to the fact that he was carrying another huge Christmas tree.
"Hi, Hagrid, want any help?" I heard Ron's voice from the other side of the tree.
"Nah, I'm all right, thanks, Ron." I wedged myself around the side of the tree to say hi to them, but Draco had suddenly appeared, blocking my way.
"Would you mind moving out of the way?" He drawled to Ron and Harry. I wanted to smack him in the back of the head because he hadn't noticed me yet. "Are you trying to earn some extra money, Weasley? Hoping to be gamekeeper yourself when you leave Hogwarts, I suppose- that hut of Hagrid's must seem like a palace compared to what your family's used to." Ron dived at Malfoy who stumbled backwards into me. I shoved him away, back at Ron.
"WEASLEY!" I heard a yell. Professor Snape had appeared at possibly the worst time, when Ron was practically lifting Malfoy up by the front of his robes. Ron let go, turning to Snape and Harry made a uh oh face at me.
"He was provoked, Professor Snape," said Hagrid, sticking his huge hairy face out from behind the tree. "Malfoy was insultin' his family." I nodded, trying to look convincing.
"Be that as it may, fighting is against Hogwarts rules, Hagrid," Snape said silkily. I tried not to glare, tugging Ron's robes straight for him. Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle shoved past, Malfoy smirking at me as he left. I turned away, facing Hagrid.
"I'll get him," Ron muttered angrily, grinding his teeth, "one of these days, I'll get him-"
"I hate them both," Harry said, for some reason he looked at me while he said that, "Malfoy and Snape." I nodded.
"They are all so biased about Purebloods and Slytherin!" I say angrily, clenching and unclenching my fists.
"Too true," Ron mutters.
"Come on, cheer up, it's nearly Christmas!" Hagrid said, making an effort to be cheery. "Tell yeh what, come with me an' see the Great Hall, looks a treat." He started moving, nearly running us over with the pine tree. The Great Hall was warm and toasty unlike the entrance hall and the decorations were nearly finished due to Professor McGonagal and Professor Flitwick who were arranging it all.
