I folded and unfolded my note nervously. I had gotten one at breakfast this morning (I noticed Harry, Draco and Hermione did too) and was now dreading detention with the people I had been ignoring for days. I don't know how to explain it but I just couldn't do it anymore, stuff like that. It made me feel rotten to the core and totally miserable as if dad's disappearance hadn't made me miserable enough.

Detention took place at eleven which made me determined to get some sleep. I came up from a particularly nasty potions class in which we had to grind frog brains. Yuck. I was going to change and lay down for a bit and the statue gave me an easy riddle, perhaps sensing that I wasn't in the mood to think too much.

I climbed down the spiral staircase and went into the dorm, flopping on my bed. A cloud of huge thick smoke burst around my bed making it impossible to see. I screamed, trying to get up but running into my bed post. I heard someone laughing and coughed on the thick choking smoke that was everywhere. I couldn't see my hands.

"You little!" I heard my voice shriek and realized it was Erin. I get confused okay? I felt scared and felt my heart beating faster and faster. The smoke was suffocating and I felt like walls were pressing in on me. I slumped down onto the floor and put my head in my hands. Why was I so terrified?

The smoke bomb started to fade away eventually and the dorm room was revealed to be in a state of chaos. Mandy Brokelhorst had tripped over her bed while the bomb was still active and was now sprawled on the floor looking startled. Lisa was sitting there calmly like nothing at all had happened, probably to spite me, the idiot.

The thing that surprised me most of all was Erin, holding onto the sleeve of Lyra Quinn's robes looking furious. Lyra looked like she was trying not to die of laughter. The room, still smoky and Lisa had just walked in, looking very confused. I shook off my terror from the smoke and tried to look normal as I reached into my trunk to pull out some muggle clothes.

I put on some black leggings, my Weasley sweater, and boots. I hope it will be warm enough. My wool Puddlemere United hat joined the outfit as well for good measure. I heard a commotion from across the dorm room. Lyra had pushed Erin off her and was going for the door to leave.

"Oh no you don't!" Erin roared. "No one pranks my sister and gets away with it!" I couldn't help it. I started laughing a loud, contagious laugh. Even Lisa grinned a bit as Erin tore out of the room after Lyra.

Mr. Filch was waiting for us in the entry hall. Hermione and Harry both said hello to me and Malfoy gave me a eager hello. I really do not want to put up with him tonight.

"Follow me," said Filch, lighting a lamp and leading us outside. I shivered a bit. Nighttime is not my favourite, but I gritted my teeth and stood up straight trying to look confident. Confidence always helps, even if you are acting. "I bet you'll think twice about breaking a school rule again, won't you, eh?" he said, leering at us. I tried not to glare. "Oh yes... hard work and pain are the best teachers if you ask me.... It's just a pity they let the old punishments die out... hang you by your wrists from the ceiling for a few days, I've got the chains still in my office, keep 'em well oiled in case they're ever needed.... Right, off we go, and don't think of running off, now, it'll be worse for you if you do."
