As I'm rushing down the hall to my locker, I accidentally run into Makayla. She's one of the most popular girls in school from the most popular clique in school. Something must've happened at their event and they must've come back. Greeeeaaattt!
"Watch where you're going, freak!" She snapped.
"Watch your attitude!" I snapped back.
"You can't talk to me like that! I'll ruin you!"
"No surprise there you big slut!"
She gasped a "dramatic" gasp. And I quote, dramatic. More like melodramatic!
"You don't know how many guys I've slept with! That's none of your business!" She said after her melodramatic gasp.
"You just admitted it, bitch!"
That's when she huffed and walked away. I knew she was going to spread false rumors about me now, but to be honest, I didn't care. I was committing suicide that night so what happened the next day wouldn't matter.
I just continued walking down the hall with my head held high until I got to my locker. There was no sign of Kayla, or Kelly! What's going on? That's when I noticed a note taped to my locker.
Mary-
Went to lunch with Kelly! Meet us at your regular table!
-Kayla
Well at least she's sitting with me and my friends. It would've been nice to walk into the cafeteria with the new girl right behind you though. It's always cool walking in with somebody new because you're showing everyone else that the new person is yours!
I opened my locker, swapped out my morning books for my afternoon ones, and grabbed my lunch. I was lucky I made my lunch the night before because I didn't have time this morning.
I walked into the cafeteria and looked for my friends. I noticed Eileen waving me down so I started walking towards our table. I took a seat between Kayla and Eileen. Kelly was across from me, and next to her was Holly. Christina usually sat where Kayla was sitting but it didn't matter anymore. The funny thing about our little group, none of us are blondes! Eileen, Holly, and I are all redheads. Kayla and Kelly are brunettes. Christina was a brunette, too. Kelly must feel good not having to be the only brunette in our group. Personally, I'm glad we met Kayla.
"Mary!" Eileen said.
"What?" I answered.
"I've been calling your name for two minutes. You spaced out again."
"Thanks for getting me out of it."
"Anytime girl!" Eileen said with a smile!
That's the thing about her that I love most. She's always smiling despite the situation. She won't be smiling when I die or at the wake and funeral. She'll probably be bawling her eye's out, and I'm going to miss it. I've never seen her cry before. I find it weird that's she's my only friend that I haven't seen cry.
I asked Kelly if she introduced Kayla to everyone, and Kelly said she did.
"So, Kayla. Where are you from?" Holly asked.
"I'm from York, Maine." Kayla replied.
"No way! I have a place up there near the beach!" Eileen said.
"Really? How come I've never seen you up there, then?" Kayla responded.
"Well, the last few times we've gone up, I've either been sick or away at a camp." Eileen replied.
"I'm sure I saw you at one point or another." Kayla said.
"Me too." Eileen answered back.
Holly was quiet at lunch. I started to ask her if she was ok when I noticed her iPad screen had Spanish on it. She must be studying for a quiz or test next period.
"So..." I began to say,
"What do you have next period, Kayla?"
"Uh, I have health next." She said looking at her schedule.
"So do Eileen and I! Which teacher?"
Now I was getting super eager, hoping Kayla was in me and Eileen's health class.
"Uh, Hart." She said.
"You're in our class! Yay!"
I was having so much fun at lunch, I'd lost track of the time and before I knew it, it was time to go to health.
So Kayla, Eileen, and I headed down to health, unaware of what was going to happen.
