Chapter 31
Swara firmly closed her eyes and forced herself to sleep. She didn't want to look into the face of this liar. Sanskar also remained seated where he was and simply watched her sleep.
While Swara enjoyed her sleep, Sanskar moved his chair closer to the bed, and with a cotton swab dabbed in water, he wet her dry lips with it.
"Sanskar," a voice came from the doorway.
Sanskar turned to look, and it was Kavita standing at the door. Sanskar scowled as Kavita walked into the room.
"Is my sister okay?" she asked.
Sanskar quietly stood up and said, "Let's talk outside, I don't want us to wake her up."
He walked right past Kavita, leaving her to follow suit. She looked at Swara lying peacefully asleep on the bed and her eyes were filled with pure hatred. She then turned to follow Sanskar outside.
"Sanskar, when is my sister going to wake up? And how is the baby? Is it a girl or boy?"
He took a cigarette from his pocket, lit it and inhaled deeply before asking her, "Why are you here? And how did you know Swara was in this hospital?"
"I heard my sister had given birth so I decided to come and see her. I got to know of it from mum and dad. They couldn't come themselves so they asked me to come instead."
How busy could they be that they refused to come and see their own daughter and grandchild at the hospital? He determined in his heart that, from now on, even if her own parents refused to love and cherish her, he would always be there for her, he would protect her from anyone at all.
"You go back home."
"Kavita looking at Sanskar suddenly cried out: "Sanskar!" I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Three years ago I should not have left the way I did, I regret it Sanskar, please lets come back together and be happy again, just like old days? "
"Kavita, I'm asking you to leave, and do not let me set my eyes on you again. I might not be able to control my anger the next time I see you."
Kavita ran past him to hug him from the front, clinging to his waist. "Sanskar, it's me you love, you just feel sorry for my sister that's why you stayed by her side. Look at me, I'm here now, and I love you."
"I really regret leaving you three years ago. I know pretending to care about my sister is your way of punishing me. Sanskar listen to me, three years ago, I accidentally saw my sister leave her diary at my doorstep. I got to know that she also likes you. I was confused, so I just decided to leave so you both could be happy together. But, Sanskar, I'm sorry now! I really regret it! You were supposed to be my boyfriend."
Listening to these words, Sanskar's heart boiled with anger. How could he have mistaken this liar for the sweet little girl from his childhood? But thankfully he wasn't blind to her schemes anymore.
Sanskar calmly removed her hands from around him. "We would never had ended up together anyways, had you not left. You are not the person I thought you were. I mistook you for that little girl who had encouraged me at my parent's funeral, but you aren't that person. It's all my fault, for thinking you were someone you weren't. And you didn't think it necessary to let me know you weren't that person either, you deliberately misled me into believing you were the one. For a little girl of around 10 years or something, you were a pretty good liar and pretender"
Kavita had her mouth opened wide. "But how did you get to know?"
After those words left her lips, she regretted it. She should have kept quiet and pretended she didn't know what he was talking about. Now he had found her out, and she had admitted to her acts.
She tried using another trick: "But then we were still happy together until I found out my sister also liked you. I had to leave for her sake, had I not left, we would have been happy together by now."
"You have been emphasizing the fact that Swara left her diary at your door for you to find. But I dare put it to you that you secretly went into her room and stole her diary, and pretended that she had planted it in your room. After you left the diary with me, I went through it. I saw the pages you had tried to hide from me by gluing them together to prevent me from seeing what was written in there. It contained Swara's childhood memories, of the time we had met. You didn't think I would find out, did you?"
"Sanskar! Where from all these accusations? I don't know what you are talking about!"
At this moment. Sanskar was extremely angry.
"Shut the hell up Kavita! Let me not hear another word from you. I want you to leave this place right now and never show your face before either Swara or myself ever again. I would like Swara to still think of you as the sweet sister she has always known, not this scheming and evil lady you have become."
Having said that, Sanskar walked back into the ward and shut the door behind him. No matter how hard Kavita begged or how pitifully she cried, he didn't even blink.
Seeing that there was no hope for her, she straightened herself and walked out of the hospital. Swara had stolen the man she loved and was going to take her place as the wife of Sanskar. She wasn't going to forgive her for that.
