"You showed up?" The house was massive, so much so that Gilbert expected to be greeted by a butler or something, not this messy haired, unshaven Frenchman with daggers for eyes.
"Yeah...I said I would."
Francis seemed completely different from when Gilbert had met him earlier.
Maybe he was starting to regret letting Gilbert into Matthew's life.
"Well, he's sleeping right now."
"It's five pm."
"That's night time for depressed people."
"Good point. I'll just hang out here until he wakes up."
"Oui. About that..."
"Huh?"
"I've been talking with my husband and...I think it would be best if you didn't get involved in this."
"What? No! You promised that I could help!"
"He didn't recognize you yesterday because he was too far gone, but the moment he recognizes you, it's going to be extremely painful...for both of you."
Gilbert frowned. "I want to help him, Francis. He's like this because of me."
"Fine. But if he falls back in love with you or you fall back for him, neither of you are coming out of it intact. So no romance, no kissing or holding hands, and absolutely no sex."
"Got it!" Gilbert nodded.
"Want to come in for some tea? My husband makes the best, but don't tell him I said that."
"Uh...yeah..." Gilbert wasn't big on tea, but it was polite to accept it.
"Come in." Francis opened the door and Gilbert stepped through, taking in the sight of this place. It was gorgeous, huge and open. Two young children sat on the floor, the girl playing with dolls and a rubber sword fish and the boy playing with action figures.
"Are they yours?" Gilbert asked.
"Oui. My little angels."
"They are not angels!" Arthur came out of the kitchen, crossing his arms.
"What were you doing in the kitchen, mon amour?" Francis eyed his husband suspiciously.
"Making tea."
"I put your tea stuff in the dining room." Francis explained.
"Great, now about your devilish children..."
Francis rolled his eyes. "What did they do now?"
"Peter called one of my clients a 'big douchy knobwobble' and Michelle flushed one of her swordfish down the toilet."
"It was deeeeead, daddy!" The little girl sauntered over, her blue dress dancing as she moved. "I had to have a funeral for it."
"And it was a very respectable funeral, too. Many kind words were said about Professor Fishy." Francis pat Michelle on the head.
"It was your idea?"
"Oui."
"I can't believe you thought flushing an entire swordfish down the toilet would work. Why did we have to get our daughter such a large collection of massive fish?"
"Because she wanted them and my little girl gets everything she wants."
"The next time a swordfish dies, please bury it somewhere."
"But it's a traditional Fish Funeral. We have to respect the gods of the sea."
"What the fuck?!" Arthur smacked his forehead. "It's just a fish."
Michelle gasped and Francis covered her ears.
"How DARE you?"
"I said what I said."
Gilbert laughed. This was going to be an adventure.Emerald and Pearl are stated to be the two weakest gems but, like, who would win in a fight?
