Alfred received the best news of his life the next day. Matthew was okay. He was still unclear about the location, but Gilbert assured him that he would call the moment he was able to see Matthew again.
That moment came two days later. Alfred was lounging around at home, his child who didn't really have a name shit up guys sitting on his stomach. He grabbed his phone the moment he heard it buzz with a text.
He's at my place.
Alfred texted off a thanks after Gilbert gave him his address.
The place wasn't too impossible to find. It was just an apartment. Alfred had to wonder why Matthew would choose such a small place to show up over the mansions and manors that all his other friends lived in, but when the door opened to a cheerful Prussian and he was invited inside where his brother slept soundly, he understood why.
Matthew looked so peaceful, bundled in layers of blankets. Alfred sat down beside him, putting a hand on his head.
"Thank god." He said softly.
"He showed up an hour ago then went right to sleep."
"Did he say anything?"
"No. Why would he?"
"Right. Good point." Alfred pet his brother's hair. "I need to talk to you."
"About what?" Gilbert sat down on the bed.
"I think we should take him to a facility."
"Like...a medical one?"
"Yeah. You can still visit him whenever you want. He just needs professional help."
"I get it."
"I don't doubt your caring abilities. I just think he needs serious help."
"Me too. When are you sending him?"
"That depends on which one he chooses. I'll have to call and set him up with a spot. You can keep him until then."
"I'll wake him up for you."
"Oh...thanks."
Gilbert shook Matthew's shoulder gently.
Matthew's eyes opened slowly. They widened when he saw Alfred and the American felt his stomach flip. He was afraid that Matthew would fear him, that he would cry again.
However, to his relief, Matthew smiled.
Alfred's lip quivered. "Mattie...It's me."
Matthew sat up, collapsing into his twin's arms. Alfred hugged him tightly. "I missed you. I'm so sorry."
He heard a sniffle and felt the shaking of his shoulders. Matthew was crying again, but not like he used to. These were happy tears, or at least Matthew's version of happy.
"Mattie," Alfred nestled his head into his brother's shoulder, holding him like he was going to lose him, "we're going to send you to a facility. You get to choose which one you want and I'll visit whenever I can."
"I'll visit you every day." Gilbert promised.
Matthew broke away from Alfred, wiping the tears from his eyes.
"Do you want to get better?"
Matthew nodded.
"Good. I've got the pamphlets here for you to look through." Alfred handed the booklets over, watching Matthew look through each one.
When he finished, he handed one back to his brother.
"This one?" Alfred asked. Matthew nodded as clarification.
"Great. I'll get you all signed up and pick you up when it's time." Alfred gave Matthew one last hug before he left. "I love you, Mattie. I can't wait to see you back."
