Three days. It's been three days since he last encountered Rogue. The rain had finally died down and the winds had been long gone. Sting trudged along the pathway, dried tearstains imprinted on his cheeks, his eyes red and puffy. The silence had engulfed everything.
Until a scream cut through the air like a knife.
Sting grasped his hair in absolute frustration for about a minute until he stood up slowly. He used what was left of his sleeves to wipe away the tears. The once blue azure eyes of happiness were now possessed with a deadly sea blue of betrayal.
" I'm done with this, Rogue. " His voice deepened with darkness, consumed with hatred and treachery. A wicked grin set on his lips. As he resumed his way towards the city of abandon, his steps crunched with confidence against the concrete, that was now completely inferior to his wellbeing.
Sting's aura shifted, a glint of revenge flashed in his eyes as he walked down the empty street. He felt his tongue lick his lips, a devious cackle emitting from his lips. If possible, his grin got wider, deepening his breathing, the silence lingering around him.
" .. Sting? " He turned around, widening his eyes slightly but covering it up with a hiss. Rogue stood there, hooded eyes and what seemed the be disappointment etched across his face. He took a sharp breath, watching him wearily. " I didn't think you'd drop so far. "
Sneering at him, Sting took a step forward with his fists clenched, his body burning with cold fury. " You should have thought of that before you betrayed me. "
" Betrayed you? "
" You killed Lector! " He screamed, yet keeping his stance, refusing to give in and fall to the ground in defeat like countless times before. Rogue didn't move, his body suddenly fragile, but all the same, he walked towards Sting.
" Lector is alive. " Rogue whispered when he reached a mere three metres from Sting. His voice was hushed and soft, but it was broken and abandoned at the same time. " He's still with us, Sting. "
Sting felt his tears threatening to fall, and as his body caved in, he felt warmth trickle down his face. Nevertheless, he shook his head, staring Rogue down. " I saw you. You. You killed Lector. "
" Lector is gone. Lector is dead. " He repeated over and over, taking step by step forward as Rogue moved back. " Sting, he's alive. "
Sting gritted his teeth, taking out a shard of glass he picked up from the alleyway he awoke from, gripping it tightly. He felt small traces of blood seep down his hand and trailing to the ground. Dripping. Falling.
With each step, his body seemed the tense, his eyes locked on Rogue, tightening his grasp on the glass. He let out a battle cry and raced towards him, not taking long to reach his target and not hesitating to stab the glass at Rogue's chest.
A dash of green and red blurred his vision, he blinked once and the time appeared to slow down. Sting froze. His eyes widened with distraught, stopping all his movements and holding the sharp glass at a new figure.
As Rogue leaned back, his body shook silently before it calmed down, slightly. On his shoulder stood Frosch in a protective stance, holding a bundle of red fur in front of Rogue's chest. It moved once. Twice..
And as it uncurled, it's body was now recognizable, causing time itself to stop altogether. Sting's grip on the glass loosened, until it finally fell to the ground, staring as the body slowly opened it's eyes. It's voice clearly upset and cracked.
" .. Sti-Sting-kun? " It whispered, finally looking up. Tears flowed from Sting's eyes, grabbing hold of his companion and holding him close to his chest. " Sting-kun..? Is that you..? "
Sting smiled weakly, dropping to his knees and nodding slowly. " Yes, it's me. It's me. " He wiped away his tears with his sleeve, lowering his hand to drop and stroke the fur. " I'm here for you. I'll never leave you again. I'm sorry, Lector. "
Lector grinned, cuddling to Sting's chest as he began to sob against the torn fabric. " Sting-kun! " Sting glanced up at Rogue and Frosch, who seemed to be just as happy as he was. He blinked in confusion and slowly stood up.
" Rogue? " Instead of replying to him, Rogue simply moved forward and wrapped his arms around Sting, laughing softly on his shoulder. " I missed you, oh how I missed you.. Sting. "
Sting's brows furrowed in suspicion, moving back a couple of steps and gasped. Rogue's eyes were now a glowing crimson red. Overhelming the colour of blood and throwing roses down in shame. His smile slowly turned into a smirk as he revealed the same blade he used to stab over Sting and Lector.
" You let your guard down, Sting. " He laughed. Sting clutched to Lector, hissing at Rogue and taking another two steps back. " What the hell are you doing?! You saved Lector. Why? Was it just so you can kill us both?! " Sting screamed at him.
Rogue kept grinning, walking towards him in small, victorious strides. " Oh no, oh dear god no. Do you want to know why I brought him back.. Sting? " Rogue leaned over as his lips brushed over his ear, gently kissing it and whispering darkly.
" It was so he can watch you in the same pain as you watched him. " Rogue moved back, lifting the blade and turning in the opposite direction. " But not today. " He cackled, slipping the weapon back into his pocket and continuing to stride away.
" I don't need to kill you today. You're both at my mercy. Don't you get it yet, Sting? " His body shivered with anticipation as Sting watched from afar, his distance now far from hearing range, shaking his head with a tssk sound.
" With life and death in thy hands.. "
Rogue whispered under his breath, Frosch looking up at him with deep understanding. Sting still crouched in the same spot with Lector possessively held against his chest. Rogue glanced back, looking up at Sting with an apologetic smile.
Sting's eyes widened upon realization, his heart racing against his chest as slightly clutched Lector with a tight grip. Rogue had a tear that slid down his face before turning away and vanishing into the darkness.
" Rogue was.. crying? "
