Undercooked
Chapter 7
Frisk wrist started burning. She had no idea why as awoke from her sleep she glanced at the clock 7:00 a.m.
'Is this a stupid rule he added to the apprentice app of his. For someone who is lazy, I am surprised how early I have to get up.'
She glanced at her wrist feeling it burn. Something was off she can swear she heard someone talking downstairs. Frisk had no idea what to expect she knew Sans had a brother and that he was there only to sleep on the couch most of the time. Maybe he was there. Frisk slowly crept up to the door not knowing if she should try to listen in or not. She was curious though she wanted to see what this award-winning chef of a brother looked like. Frisk opened the door and glanced downstairs. In the living room standing was a tall skeleton wearing a pure white chefs outfit pants and all. He was holding her chef's jacket that she left in the bathroom yesterday. Sans put his hands behind his head, but he seemed nervous about the way he keeps shifting around.
Frisk laid on her belly and shuffled forward to the railing trying not to be spotted.
"Well, the dear brother whose chefs jacket is this?" the younger but clearly taller brother said.
Sans kept looking around, and his eye met up to Frisk. He did not expect her to come out of Pap's room.
Sans started talking accusation "It is mine! Don't you even recognize your own brother's clothing?"
Sans tried to nab it from Papyrus hand, and he looked at the label "So you wear a medium women's chefs jacket."
"Hey it looks good on me what can I say I am just all bones."
Papyrus didn't laugh, but he did notice Sans eyeing the second floor. Frisk tried to duck back as quick as she could when Papyrus glanced her way. She didn't know how he was.
'Is he going to kick me out of the house. Or worse is going to challenge me to compete against him and force me to be his slave.'
Frisk couldn't risk that and tried to slide back into the bedroom to no avail because Papyrus already made it to the top of the steps.
He glanced at me "Why hello there young lady and who are you?"
'Wait a minute... He seems pleasant enough' He offered his hand to me helping me up "Let's get you off this disgusting floor, shall we. Now let's try this again."
He swiped any speck of dirt off of him, took off his hat and bowed deeply.
"I am Chef Papyrus, and you are?"
He went back to a standing position. Confused on what to do Frisk thought it was only polite to courtesy in her shorts and tank top 'God I am so underdressed for this greeting.'
"I am Nicole ummm apprentice of Sans." I went back to a standing position after a second. He looked at me
"Really Sans?". Papyrus looked over to Sans who was not thrilled any of this was happening.
"I can see why he picked you." Papyrus continued at that moment Sans ran up the stairs and tackled Papyrus to the floor.
"My clothes.... they are dirty now." The clothes looked perfectly clean to me as he stood up to face Sans.
"Oh come on Paps we haven't ketchup like this in a long time batter now than later." Frisk was afraid to laugh because of looks could kill Sans would be 10 ft under. Papyrus sighed and smiled breaking the tension
"You are right Sans. I am glad to see you finally relax for once you have been so not you since..." He stopped talking after seeing Sans face falter.
"Since the peanut butter incident, I mean..." Papyrus said, but it felt like he was going to say something else.
Sans looked at his brother and smiled "Yeah it was definitely a sticky situation, but luckily I have the coolest brother to help me out."
Frisk giggled at the puns but felt she was witnessing something important.
Papyrus looked at Frisk "Frisk is it. I will be right back I just need to change really quick in my bedroom."
Sans and I exchanged looks Sans was more of horror than mine. 'If he freaks about a little dust. What about a messy room?'
"Hey Paps maybe you should get dressed in the bathroom I can bring your clothes to you." Papyrus waved him off "No you and your apprentice go downstairs get breakfast and I will..." Papyrus opened the door to see Frisk's bag, his bed a mess, and some stuff that Frisk left to fall on the floor. The scream that came next is what made Frisk run for the hills. Sans and Frisk ran downstairs into the kitchen trying to find shelter from Papyrus potential wrath..
"This is just great. How messy did you leave it for him?" Sans was looking towards the stairs expecting him to run down those stairs and begin yelling at him for doing this.
"Well, I didn't expect him to go into my.... his room" She corrected herself "Your brother doesn't seem to bad by the way," Frisk added.
"Hmph yeah, he isn't too bad when he isn't such a clean freak. That is all dad's fault."
We can hear him swearing up a storm in his room.
Then silence and heavy stomping down the steps with my bag in tow holding it in a pinch like it was the most disgusting thing on earth. Papyrus was sporting a spotless white chefs outfit.
"Hehe... about that bro." Sans was trying to go in front of me.
Papyrus held his finger in front of Sans mouth and moved him aside.
"I can explain." Frisk started to say to him.
He silenced me with his finger.
"Dirty laundry needs to go into the laundry bin and have you been living in my room?" Frisks and Sans exchanged looks were shocked at his response expecting a lot more rage.
"I have been living in your room. I had no place to live and Sans offered.... I just got a job and if you give me a week I can start paying rent." Frisk looked at Papyrus whose face seemed to soften
"It is okay..." He took a deep breath "My brother always has a soft spot for others."
Sans puts his hand on Papyrus shoulder "Thanks Paps for understanding."
"The only thing I don't understand is why my room and not yours." Papyrus turned on his brother glaring him down.
"You know I like my things clean." He seethed the words so that Sans know how he truly felt. "Cmon Paps you know I don't allow anyone in my room." Papyrus tosses Frisk's bag into Sans arm "But MY room is fine...Why didn't you just offer her dad's room?"
'There was another room?' Frisk thought
"You know why I can't." Sans retorted he was angry
"Dad is not coming back Sans..." Sans slammed my stuff into the ground
"You don't know that... just because you are better than me and became a head chef you think you know more than me you are wrong. I am your older brother not the other way around."
Sans look at me than at Papyrus "I am going to Frosties." Then he left through the door leaving Frisk and Papyrus in silence.
"I am sorry about how my brother acted" Papyrus stated than looked at a frustrated Frisk
"It wasn't his fault I insisted on that room." Frisk was riled up and Papyrus looked at her curiously wondering why she would say such a thing.
"I know you are lying to me but why?"
"Somone needs to stick up for Sans and I guess I will have to since his brother won't. I don't know what happened to your dad nor do I want you to tell me. If Sans wants to he will and second of all you just embarrassed him in front of his student me.. This is all just a big competition for you isn't it. You always have to be right and always on top. Why can't you let your brother have one thing?"
Papyrus kept opening his mouth and shutting it. He was searching for an answer he didn't have. 'Is that why Sans been so distant from me.' He glared at Frisk 'How dare she in my house tell me what to do I...'
"You need to find your brother and apologize." She said still feeling the adrenaline rush but seeing how angry Papyrus was getting losing confidence quickly.
"Once you guys get back I will have my stuff packed up and I will move out and your house will stay mostly clean at least from me... just be nice to him okay."
Papyrus face scrunched up and then smiled at her "Okay...but I already got the bags all packed so you can just go."
Papyrus left out the front door leaving Frisk behind.
"I guess I should go." She glanced at the kitchen and was determined to leave something behind for Sans and Papyrus. It was the least she could do as a thank-you. Frisk was going to make pancakes but not any kind of pancakes chocolate chip pancakes. She wrote down the recipe she was taught yesterday in a notebook and started to follow the recipe. In her head she can hear Sans yelling at her how to do it just a certain way. Frisk had to throw a couple away but the majority of the pancakes looked and tasted like Sans.
"I did it." Frisk was so proud of herself. She cleaned up quickly and left a short note for Sans and left. She covered the pancakes with a bowl to keep them warm. "I wonder where I should stay at...."
While Frisk was getting her cooking on at Frosties Sans was trying to get drunk
"Come on Frosty get me another..."
Frosty slid over the syrup to Sans and he immediately swigged a gulp and with disgust saying
"This is milk chocolate give me the good stuff..." Frosty was cleaning the milkshake glasses and looked Sans
"It is not even 9 am and you want me to get you drunk. Do you know how expensive to replace the door is?"
Sans rolled his eyes "Don't you just use your ice powers to make the doors in the first place."
Frosty sighed "Yeah but I was trying to make a point you can't just wreck things because you are mad. I tell you what you get rid of the no date rule and I will get you the dark chocolate beer.'
Sans just glared at him and shrugged "Sure whatever give me another."
Frosty grabbed one but held it out of arm's reach "Not until you show me the rules and I can see it has been deleted."
'Seriously I just want this day to be over with.'
He grabbed his phone and was just about to show the app to Frosty when Papyrus came in. Both Frosty and Sans looked at Papyrus strangely as he huffed over to Sans.
"We need to talk."
Glancing at a couple of empty chocolate sauces than at Frosty.
"Hey I only gave him two dark chocolate the rest is milk chocolate just two." Frosty said and even held two ice fingers to emphasize the point.
Papyrus looked at Frosty and was about to pay when Sans says "Just put it on my tab okay."
"Sans..." "Here we go again... Why don't you say it Paps? You are better than me in every way you are superior and I am a burden to you."
Sans got off the chair and was heading to the door but was stopped by Papyrus words
"I am sorry... I never meant for you to feel this way..." Papyrus was looking at Sans who turned around to face him.
"Look after what happened with dad. We kind of been at each other's throats. I tried to look out for you but you didn't need that I can see that now you just wanted a brother."
Papyrus looked at the ground and was glad no one else other than Frosty was listening. Even Frosty got the tip and went into the back to clean giving them privacy.
"Look the only reason I compete so hard is that you are so amazing at everything and I wanted to be just as amazing as you."
Sans stood there dumbfounded "Great as me... Paps no bones about it you are and always be amazing you are the coolest brother I know. It is just I hoped that dad would have thought the same about me but I don't even know if he will come back."
"He will Sans and I am sorry I been less of a brother to you. I hope you can forgive me."
Sans smiled and hugged Papyrus "Of course what are bros for."
"You got an interesting apprentice there Sans she yelled at me about how I acted towards you."
Sans eye socket got big "She what?". 'I guess it shouldn't surprise me she did yell at me for the flirting incident at Frosties.'
They continued this conversation while walking towards home
"Oh yes she was very ambient of me apologizing even though I was glaring at her. She even offered to leave if I talked to you. Although, now I guess I should apologize to her as well."
Sans rolled his eyes
"I am not worried by the time we get back she will still be packing her junk."
Papyrus beamed at himself "Don't worry about that I already had all her stuff packed up for her."
"Papyrus did you at least get her cell number."
"No... why?"
"Great now I will have to find her using the app luckily she filled out the form yesterday. I tell you Paps I am glad we are sorta getting along this girl she has no skills whatsoever."
"Then why did you take her on as an apprentice?"
"I don't know she looked a lot like Chara, she seems determined to get us out of here and I see a potential there but don't let her know I told you this." Sans added that is all he needed was an apprentice who ego is bigger than her skull.
Papyrus gave a reassuring tap on the back. "Don't worry bro that will stay between us."
They entered their home and sweet pancake smell filled the air.
"Paps did you make pancakes before getting me."
"No, I immediately left after being chewed out by Frisk."
"Heart-breaker is making a name for herself already taking down the great Paps."
"Hear-breaker? Who is that? Is that your nickname for Frisk. Why don't you call her Frisk? You don't see me going around and calling her I don't know .... human all the time. That is just weird and awkward."
Sans continued to the kitchen ignoring his babbling brother and lifted the bowl to reveal chocolate chip pancakes. Frisk never made them before and it showed because the chips were swirled through the batter but other than that they looked good. He spotted the note beside the pancakes and read
"Hey Sans look I made pancakes with no eggshells. I know that will crack you up. I am sorry I didn't get to say goodbye but I wanted to say thank-you still. I will try to find a place to live nearby to live so that you and your brother won't get into more arguments.
Frisk (AKA heart-breaker I honestly don't think you know my name....)
P.S. I hope you and your brother are getting along and try not to argue with him. Treat each other well talk to you later
Sans smiled at the note "Boy Heart-Breaker sometimes..."
Papyrus came in the kitchen realizing soon after that he was abandoned in the living room
"Is that Frisk's work?" Pointing toward the pancakes.
"Yeah it is the strange thing is I just taught her how to make pancakes yesterday. I am careful though last time there was eggshells and half-baked ones." Papyrus took a bite out of the pancakes "Sans these are delicious. I don't know what you mean she has no skill because besides your pancakes these are pretty amazing."
Sans looked at him confused "Seriously yesterday heart-breaker couldn't even make a single pancake without my help but ...really?"
He scrunched his face in confusion as Papyrus stood up and handed him a fork and plate.
"Try it yourself. I am telling you this apprentice of yours might have what it takes." Sans took the fork and took a bite of the pancake and Papyrus was right. It was light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness that it didn't need any syrup.
"How is this possible?" Sans retorted surprised how well made they were.
Papyrus shrugged his shoulders "Maybe she just needed the right teacher."
'With Paps help maybe that girl can get us out of here.' Sans thought with his grin growing bigger by the second.
He opened the app and located her through the bracelet.
"I gotta go bro. Save a couple of the pancakes for me."
"No can do Sans." Papyrus teased back. 'Sans looks so proud of his student's work. I can't wait to see how Frisk turns out as a chef. Soon she will be challenging me but the Great Chef Papyrus is up to any challenge.'
A/N: I was debating about when to introduce Paps for several reasons. The first one was initially i was going to make Paps almost too unlivable and unlikable. The more I wrote Sans and Frisk the more I realize I just couldn't do it. I didn't want this series to be too serious it is a comedy not a drama. The second one was because of the relationship he has with several main characters including with Chara and Sans dad. So when I decided to bring him in the picture now finally it was because I felt that if I didn't Frisk would be still learning basic recipes forever and the story would hit a snail pace. Now with Papyrus there she can learn from three chefs and it will mean she will learn faster but more craziness will happen. Another thing I wanted to point out is that Papyrus is well respected around Friedin. That is why Frosty backed down immediately after seeing Paps. The higher your rank the more respect you get. XD. Paps and Sans still has some serious issues still but right now they will get along for at least... 10 min or so...
If you made it this far.... I will give you a brief preview of the next chapter... Yes it is finally time for Frisk to challenge her first opponent and it is Monster Kid.
Sorry for the long chapter....
Okay enough ranting now for the official stuff. I do not own Undertale or any of his characters but I did create Undercooked and the personas Of characters.
Thank you! I mean it Thank you for reading this chapter. See you next time.
