Hey guys sorry for not updating, I didn't get much response on this story so I wasn't feeling very inspired but regardless here is Chapter 4! Sorry its much shorter than the other chapters but its all I could do today. I'll try to update very soon!

Magnus waited outside the Institute impatiently for Catarina; he had called her for her help on an idea he’d had for helping Alec. She had refused at first but after hearing about Alec’s condition she had agreed. He saw Catarina approaching, she had not bothered to conceal her blue skin with a glamour due to the nature of the mission. She walked up to Magnus muttering a greeting.      “So we are clear on the plan?” he asked ready to set off. Catarina nodded “We are portaling to Idris and checking to see if in his moments of death Ragnor recited an incantation to contain the power located in his immortality.” The plan was much more dire than Catarina made it out to be. The way she said it made it seem like they were going to water an old friend’s plants while they were on vacation. Ragnor Fell was a very powerful warlock; if he had managed to capture the power of his immortality before he was overtaken by his murderers than there would be very serious wards guarding it. Magnus stared drawing a Portal overcome by memories of the last time he had made a Portal. Alec had been sad but with time would have gotten over Magnus; not that Magnus could say the same for himself. If Alec died he couldn’t fathom what he would do; a life never comforted by his eyes or enveloped in a hug when the shadowhunter knew he’d had an awful day. Magnus opened his eyes done with the Portal but still haunted by memories.

Magnus concentrated on the image of Ragnor Fell’s cottage outside of Alicante, a small dilapidated house with green grass sprouting wildly untrimmed everywhere. Stepping through the portal Magnus gripped Catarina’s hand. They arrived with a jolt, Magnus falling to his knees. They walked to the door of the cottage, tripping over knarled tree roots. When they reached the door they opened it easily as murderers do not usually lock the door out of courtesy. Magnus stopped short inside the doorframe gasping. The place was glowing. The room was literally glowing blue; Magnus took out his bag to start drawing a pentagon. The pentagon would allow him to trap whatever demonic presence was hiding here long enough to get information. Magnus drew the pentagon and was starting to set up other necessities when his vision went black. The world started to spin around him, his knees gave out from under him. He vaguely heard Catarina calling his name but couldn’t comprehend her over the searing pain in his head. It felt like a red hot knife was being plunged into his head and twisted. The fire seared behind his eyes making it impossible to think about anything but this agony. He heard Catarina shouting before he blacked out.
